Gotta say - I am dismissive of all-star and olympic "soft" hockey. Never bother. But I've watched much of the US-CAN and US-SW games the last few days.

These guys are really crunching each other. They're serious. I might be a convert to the concept of "a world cup of hockey."

USA now has a bunch of injured players - I can't see owners allowing this to keep going if this is the level of damage.

Oh I can't say I like it, for exactly that reason. An extra 8 games (or whatever) is not something I think is good. But if they're gonna do it anyway, I might as well watch it.

I didn't intend to follow this tournament, but the team USA has made this tournament being exciting. They played the way I enjoy hockey..
The 2 hits by ,McAvoy were a thing of beauty. The fights were great.

So I wholeheartedly cheer for the USA.

A snarky, but also a genuine question: are the hitting and the "crunching" the most important hallmarks of quality hockey for you?

Wasn't asked of me but I'll give my answer. Its not the most important Hallmark of quality hockey, but its present in the highest quality games and that's because the intensity is revved up in the best hockey. When the intensity is up and emotions are high, that's when you see the physical side of the game come out.

Its rare you see that kind of intensity in a random Tuesday night game of the NHL regular season, come playoff time, every game is like that and the hockey is 10X better

I them as indicators of intent. Of effort. Finishing checks, stretching to stop that flipper on your left when you're sliding right, etc., are all indicators of how serious the players are taking the game. If they're not taking it seriously, why should I?

The flip side is, of course, that I don't want a mid-season tourney to take a player out with injury. So I'm kinda hoist by my own petard here. ;)

What makes Olympic hockey soft? It's played nowadays at NA sized rink, so it's pure NHL tournament.
Haven't watched in years - I don't really like the Olympics in general - but it has an impression with me of being heavily-weighted towards skill rather than toughness. Soccer on skates is not interesting to me.

And I didn't know they shrunk the rink. I wish the NHL had gone larger instead.

The only thing anyone should care about is the fact Bettman once again loves to F the Wings whenever he can.

Back to back sat/sun in the afternoon and evening.

We never play Weekend games well that start before 730 and the fact we have a back to back after two weeks off is criminal.

End rant

Yeah, that's right!

Because Bettman draws up the NHL schedule.

Your rhetoric is frankly frighteningly naive and ignorant.
I also don’t understand his gripe about the first game being in the afternoon and the second game being in the evening. Like does he prefer the opposite? Strange strange gripe.
