It's hilarious how it seemed like such a hurdle for Canada to even get Harley to Montreal [the whole he can be in Boston but not be with the team in Montreal thing initially] but all of a sudden, USA can just bring whomever as standbys with nary a peep

If USA loses, wonder if there will be crying of conspiracy :sarcasm:

Even if so, it was he himself who said he wasn't ready to go to start the tournament, so it's not like it was a made up injury by Canucks staff.

The whole thing seemed kind of dumb. Bring in a guy who would have travelled commercial from the East Coast to Vancouver early in the week, then fly him back commercial to Boston (~7 hour travel day) just to join a team he wouldn't even have time to have a proper practice with and play in the fastest game he's played in his career after not playing a game in 3 weeks.

Not exactly setting up a guy for success. Go with the guy that's been with the team the last 10 days and if looking for emergency replacements look at guys either already in Boston practicing with the Bruins or someone that can get to Boston within a short 1-2 hour direct flight.

The difference with Theodore is that the injury happened in the first period of the first game and he was deemed unavailable for the rest of the tournament immediately so getting a player there was getting access to him for up to 3 games and multiple days.

Sounds like Hughes isn't even medically cleared to play, but they are flying in a few guys (Thompson, Pesce) as standbys.
The whole episode is just strange. Like I said the Americans are probably just playing games, trying to create narratives and leave people guessing about lineups.
I don’t think it really matters who’s in or out, both of these teams are absolutely stacked and have guys fully capable of stepping up.

Both teams are incredibly evenly matched and it’s going to come down to the Canadians being able to adjust and getting to the middle of the ice instead of the perimeter and over passing play the Americans easily shut down last time around. But more importantly this game is likely won or lost with Binningtons performance. If he plays like he has the rest of this tournament it’s going to be really hard for the Canadians to overcome that, he needs to be near perfect and can’t let a bad one by him because Helle likely wont.

Anyone else worried where @Drivesaitl is
Don't look into it further. He's fine.

Kiddin. Prob just hates the new server I'm guessing.

Alright, I calmed down. No more politics, I just want good hockey.

On a related note, if I can ask, did we ever learn what happened to Del? Hopefully he and Drive are OK tonight wherever they're at.

Del just disappeared one day. One of those guys that was well liked but just decided to up and leave., Who knows, maybe something or someone here he didn't want to be around, or maybe he just decided to move on and live life. Wherever he is, hope he's doing well.

Tournament Good, Bad & Ugly: The stars and surprises (good and bad) from the 4 Nations Face-Off: Player ratings after the round-robin

It should come as no surprise that Karlsson (1.18) and Victor Hedman (0.46) have been excellent for the Swedes. The two stalwarts of the Swedish blue line were excellent in the tournament.

A lot has been made of Karlsson's defensive faults in recent NHL seasons, but that was not the case in this tournament. Karlsson had a positive defensive rating and plus-4 goal differential while driving play and putting up points (one goal, two assists).

I just sent him a PM, he hasn't been on since late January.
Yes it does seem strange, 5 mins as well. They’re probably sitting on an island somewhere pailing drinks though.
I messaged 5 awhile back and he's busy with life right now.

Del IIRC said that he had a rough patch in life and sadly never returned.

In the Olympics, I wonder about Crosby. He made the massive play at the end, and has shown flashes, but has also looked his age at times. I wonder if he's the 13th forward for that team.
The guy is unreal at 36. Better than most on the team. He's a lock and not 13th forward.
