Depends on who'd be going to Dallas. I'm not saying Dallas needs to make a trade, but they've lost 2 top 9 forwards for the year, well 3 if you can't Nuke. Nill loves his depth also

If we get everyone back soon then I doubt Nill would make a move, or at least wait until the deadline if we're in a position to add

We have lost our middle 6 for a couple months and 3 of those guys are gone for the year (Nuke,Janmark and Hemsky) depending on how bad this year starts off this season might be a wash and we should sell instead of buying.

Sharp could probably nab a first at the deadline. Eaves would get a 2nd likely. Maybe ship Oduya as well if we are doing really bad. We have a fee decent trade deadline guys who could be moved if our season goes to the capper because of injuries. I'd rather do that then sell the farm to salvage the season by buying a forward or 2 that won't be needed past this year

Also Honka is above PPG in the minors and our D is still looking shaky. He will not get moved as we need him bad. Also of Dallas does trade for a forward (I hope we dont) he will be of a much lower quality. The kind that doesn't sniff Honka. We aren't looking for a top line guy or even a 2nd line guy. If we make a move it's for a 3rd line guy most likely

Matt Read for Cody Eakin.

I know Eakin is hurt for a few more weeks, but Philly could use a #3 C when he gets back. Right now, we have extra forwards once Raffl gets back this week from injury.

For Dallas, they get a reliable winger who can play RW or LW and who is defensively responsible and good on the PK. It gives them a player who can play now as opposed to waiting for Eakin to come back.

Cap hits are about the same....within $225,000....Eakin has 4 years, Read has 2 years left.

Honka is not going to be included in any deal . Just saying. Our D is horrible at moving the puck right now outside of Klingberg. Honka already should be up with Dallas the way they struggle .

I'd say Klingberg moving the puck well right now is a stretch.

We desperately could use what Honka brings right now.

Klingberg has been bad sure but we know he can play the puck since he's done it before. The other guys ? Not so much .

Who is even above average at playing the puck from the other players ? None of the vets are maybe Lindell is but he's played what 8 NHL games now ?

Johns can be average. Lindell has the pedigree. Honka certainly can.

As for the proposed Spooner deal...Yes a thousand times yes.

If Dallas continues to flounder I expect all of Hudler, Oduya, Eaves, Sharp and Eakin to be on the table, along with one of Backman/Oleksiak/Nemeth at least.

Trading for a middle six forward at this point just seems foolish. Giving up future assets for a team that's by no means guaranteed to turn it around is how you end up with the 13th pick and no 2nd rounder.

I agree with you, but does Nill? Stars are 1 point back of a wild card spot with 74 games to go. I think he sees thing different then us and isn't ready to give up.

Like I said before, Nill loves his depth and we still don't know when Sharp is coming back. So there is a chance he could make a move

At this point I think he tries to wait it out till Eakin and Sharp return. Once that happens he sees how it goes. By then we'll be at least 25% of the season done and he'll have a much better picture of how this season will go. If Benn is still ailing, Dallas basically repeats its first 11 games and is 12 points or so back of first then what he should do becomes far more obvious.

I really don't think he'll do anything till December at the earliest no matter what though.

DAL: van Riemsdyk
TOR: Lindell, 2nd Round 2017

How does trading the only half decent LHD prospect solve anything? Lindell is the only lefty in the system that has top 4 potential .

Nemeth and Oleksiak seem to be destined to be 3rd pairing guys at best. After that Lindell is our only hope on the left side. If anything we need more LD with potential

Klingberg, Johns, Lindell, Honka - that's our future defense. They're not being traded unless some other team is selling their star like Seguin for cheap.

Backman could possibly be a 3-4 d someday, very solid defensively, good gab and the speed to catch up if a guy does get by him

we can go 2 ways here:

ya want a live body, cheap: Tanner Glass, cost a 7th

ya want a legit player: there are limited options
but Rangers do not want vets

Gurianov would be the return for like Lindberg, Tambellini and Kovacs

Why would we move a prospect for a prospect? That would help with our injuries I guess:help:

As for Lindberg, there's no way Nill just trades a top spec for a bottom 6 C. I think he'd easily add a first and possibly Honka

Come on man

Seeing as Gurianov was our recent 12th overall pick and they said they thought he would have a 3-4 year development path there is no point trading him for a bottom 6 C. We are better off hoping he turns into something than just shipping him off for immediate help
