Tribute Former Stars Thread

Kind of suprised by Janny getting waived . Guess an Oilers prospect must've stepped up ? Janny was never great but he's an bottom 6 NHL player

Didn’t they just sign him ?

Yes they did. I read this seems to be part of some scheme to maximize capspace for season opening roster . Makes sense because the Oilers likely will use LTIR the whole season with Klefblom and Smith not playing.

Stars did the same last year with their wierd official opening roster that had 3 goalies and some guys who never played an NHL game

So much for the "players get better when they leave Dallas!" meme that was going around a couple of seasons ago after Nuke was playing well in Colorado and Janmark put up some decent points in the first half of a season riding shotgun to Kane and Debrincat. Looks like Nuke was very much the exception to the rule.

This is where the last year of the flat cap is showing up down the roster. The cap stayed flat, but a bunch of high end players still signed new deals getting paid more. The squeeze is hitting the depth veterans. A number of dudes are seeing their NHL careers ending a bit early because teams don't have room for them.

It's not just that. Teams just prefer their own prospects instead of those veteran journeyman roster fillers. Teams no longer sign a ton of those 1 year veteran minimum deals to fill out the rosters.

Just better to juggle waiver exempt prospects in the last couple of spots.

I mean, Niskanen and Oleksiak are the origins of that one I would think. More just a continuing theme of Dallas blundering the development of prospects. Those were just three very concrete examples of it, because all three were absolutely nowhere as Dallas Stars, and became a top pairing, top 4, and top 6 forward respectively. I'm reaching pretty far back in history for this one, but Nuke isn't the first and I doubt he'll be the last. That really isn't saying much, though, even the best teams let good ones slip through the cracks sometimes.

Dude looked like he was about to cry in the postgame interview. Come on man its game 12 of the regular season not Game 7 of a playoff series. Campbell still has the same mental problems he's allways had since he was drafted.

It appears Klingberg is having a rough start in Anaheim. A quote from today's GDT: "Also what’s up with Eakins sending Klingberg back out there after doing that bonehead backhand pass during the PP. Klingberg sucks so bad, worse FA signing we’ve had in years."

So it seems his steadily declining play in the last few seasons is much more likely to be age- and injury-related decline than hurt feelings over not getting an extension or mishandling by Bowness (despite what many here claimed).
