Wonder if Ridley ever did quit smoking. He was in Dallas for basically the entire year, which (in the late 1970s) isn't necessarily a place I think of as being a good place to quit smoking.

My first NHL game was Atlanta at Vancouver December 20/1977. Ridley started for the Canucks but was hit in the throat by a shot (Eric Vail?) and Maniago came in and replaced him. RIP.

Something from the archives, Moore had two shutouts in five career starts after he replaced Bernie Parent (career-ending eye injury) late in the 1978-79 season. He was the goalie in the two wins against Vancouver in the preliminary round after the Canucks won the opener in Philadelphia and if not for a dramatic faceoff win by Bobby Clarke and pass to Reggie Leach in the last minute of regulation in Game 2, the result could have been one of the biggest post-season upsets in NHL history.

That's two days in a row for NYI deaths....Clark Gillies' Islanders' teammate Randy Boyd died yesterday.

Gillies played on some memorable lines during his years with the Islanders:

He played on the Islanders' top line with Bryan Trottier and Billy Harris in the '70s.

Then he played with Trottier and Mike Bossy....a very famous line. They played together for 3 or 4 seasons, and parts of others.

Gillies also played on a good line with Butch Goring and Duane Sutter.

He played some with Pat LaFontaine also.
