Clifford got suspended and Simmonds played another game and played like shit.

I don't love Keefe. I think he's a good coach, not a great coach. Personally I would have jumped at the chance to hire Trotz when the Islanders fired him.

With that said I can't help but laugh when people post things that aren't based in reality. You poor, poor thing.

So you think this new extra leafy extra Dubas lineup can win a playoff round?

.. and you think I'm not based in reality.

I didn't say anything about this 'extra Leafy extra Dubas team'. Just commented on how unintelligent your post was. If I knew who was going to win playoff rounds this season I'd bet money on it.

'Extra Leafy extra Dubas' is also so incredibly cringe. This is why I feel bad for you.

Clarke MacArthur would be a great fit alongside JT and Willy.
Dude was low-key very skilled

I only remember his highlight plays (was I think 12 in 2011 lool when I became a fan) but he was a great top 6 player that year

Remember him scoring a slap shot goal from the blue line. Think it was versus tbe Rangers

He imo was a better version/player than Moulson who JT had chemistry with on the island.

Versteeg is another name. He only played 53 games for us but had around 35 pts

Think he could be 50+ point forward on the third line for us. A great depth scoring winger who could play on the PP and give shifts with 16/91/88/34 if needed

You may be in luck.. little max ellis plays like him

Anyone of the guys on the Mac in the USSR line would be a great fit. MacArthur, Grabovski and Kulemin.

OP said we could not name former players that played with the Matthews core so that means no JVR. I would say then the next best option would be Dave Andreychuk. The Leafs have been missing a good net front guy since JVR left. Nylander and Tavares are decent at it, but they're not as good as tipping pucks in the net like JVR was. JVR also low key was one of the league's best passers from that area.

Alex Steen would be perfect for this team.

Some really old names from the past:

Healthy Alyn MaCauley, Alexander Mogilny, Ed Belfour, Bryan Berard.

I think both James Reimer and Bernier got raw deals here too. Good goalies on bad teams that got thrown under the bus when they failed.

How good was Colby Armstrong as a leaf?

he barely played and was hurt a fair bit, but was he effective as a bottom 6er?

Don't think he was the quickest skater which could hurt his ability to keep up with the team.

Had a bit of snarl I recall

Colby was NOT good.

We need a goalie
So Felix, Cujo or Eddie

Gilmour to be 2nd line centre and JT to the wing

Wendel Clark or Steve Thomas as tough scoring wingers

Bob Rouse or Danny Markov as the perfect partner for Reilly.

Bunting Matthews Marner
Engvall/Robertson Tavares Nylander
KGM Line
Engvall/Robertson Kampf Jarnkrok/Aube-Kubel

If you had the KGM line (Kulemin-Grabovski-MacArthur), that’s it; you literally just need a fourth line full of specialists like Kampf and guys who are tough to play against.

Rielly Kubina
Kaberle
Brodie
Giordano Liljegren
Sandin

It’s satisfying that - on paper at least, the current D core is difficult to improve upon without getting airdropped a Makar/Fox level player. He wasn’t the greatest here but Kubina had great size and a shot. McCabe was too boneheaded, it’d be nice to have his shot though.

I also think that Mo has surpassed Kaberle at this point.

Eddie
Reimer

Solid #1 and an excellent platoon guy. Kinda sad that Eddie on the back nine of his career is the best goalie the Leafs have had since the 80’s, earlier even.

Cujo was excellent for the Leafs and was late 90s 2000s.
Potvin too early 90s.

Belfour was great for 2 seasons on the back end of his career. Won a playoff round almost himself for us.
He was an all star goalie his whole career and came off 2 down years (His standards) with Dallas.
Had a rebirth with Toronto and as we all know is the last goalie to win a playoff round.

If they were all healthy
Marner Matthews Sundin
Tavares Lindros nylander
Tucker Kampf kulemin
Crabb Bolland Orr

Rielly yuskevich
Kaberle Brodie
Salming liljegren

Cujo
Eddie

Cujo or Belfour with this current roster and we have a very strong shot at the cup.

Or Mogilny/Roberts throw them on the Tavares line.

Keefe would bench these guys for the playoffs.
Keefe went on a rant about violent series and sent simmonds out in game 2 to take dumb penalty after dumb penalty in a game Tampa didn't get violent at all.

Keefe did end up benching Simmonds but only after he already gave Tampa 25% of their required wins.

Upfront, Dougie Gilmour. Always Gilmour. Favorite player of all time.

Defense gets Dmitri Yushkevich. What a player.

In goal, Felix the Cat. ALL. DAY. LONG.

I'd like see what this team could accomplish with Cujo in net. We might end some arguments.

Alex Steen in for Alex Kerfoot.

OK so one forward, one Dman, and one goaltender from the past, the rest of the team will stand as is

WILLIAMS Tavares Nylander

SALMING Rielly

POTVIN Murray
