Former Ducks (2024-25 edition)

We really wasted Fowler
i wouldn't say wasted. he was one of the key players on those 2010s ducks teams that made a few deep runs. once he was forced to play heavy minutes on rebuilding teams with an inexperienced d-corps, he (predictably) struggled. now he's playing on a winning team with vets like leddy and parayko and not having to as much on his own like he was in his last few seasons here

now if you want to argue that the ducks wasted his offensive potential, i'm all for it. they should've let him do as he wanted on offense instead of molding him into a two way d-man

You know when we drafted Lundy I had the hopes he will become what Sami was with a more powerful skating. Somehow my wishes with this clubs player hardly become anything near true

It's great seeing Fowler play well, especially after so much crap was posted about him on here. Just a great defenceman.

Amazing what can happen to a guy when forced into roles they arent equipped for. He went from looking like he might be out of the league in a couple of years to one of the top D performers in the playoffs with another contract left in him.

"(Fowler is) incredibly cerebral," Blues head coach Jim Montgomery said to reporters after the game. "When you try and change things that you do, he goes out and implements them right away. That's how intelligent he is, and it's really underrated how competitive he is. (You don't) know that when you coach against him, but once you get him in your own locker room and you get to see the eyes and you see the intensity in his eyes, you couple that with the calmness and poise to make the plays he makes at both ends of the ice. It's pretty impressive."

That's some high praise.

I know playing with Parayko obviously helps let him be free to join rush more, but one big thing I noticed is how stl plays a zone heavy d scheme. They rarely chase any where beyond the top of the circles and they clog up home base and when they counter, they are 4 guys all up ice in unison. Such a dramatic diff to CroMagnon bullshit

Use a player in the right manner, in a system that matches your personnel, and don’t tell him you don’t want him, and don’t tell him you’re taking his minutes away for kids who do nothing with them, and he plays to his potential.

#astounding

I don’t remember that ever happening in Anaheim.

It was actually the opposite where they completely overplayed him
