Max was so good in juniors, by all accounts dominant by the end of his AHL stint, and then great to start his career. There were rumours he was partying too much after leading the team in scoring, then he had injury issues and could never get himself right again.

I sort of wonder if it was an issue of he led a team in scoring and then thought he was good to go and took his foot off of the gas for how much work it takes to be to not only a good player, but a consistently in the lineup NHL player.

He was also a guy that wasn't a plus skater, so he had to rely on always being in the right spot to score his goals. He was very much a Perry-esque player. It felt like once things started going wrong for him he was almost questioning himself at every step and lost his innate sense of goal scoring that carried him to that point. It really sucks because we're missing a guy with his net front presence. We could use a non-broken Comtois right now.

Yeah it’s too bad what happened to Comtois. He was showing a lot promise at one point. I feel like he had really good chemistry with Zegs in the Covid season. Or maybe it was with someone else. I think he had good chemistry with Rakell too, they actually looked like brothers haha.

He was really bad defensively and his conditioning wasn’t great. Still feel like he should’ve been in more games his last year here, I don’t think he was playing as badly as how often he’d get into games would indicate. It’s not like we had better options.

I wonder if Comtois' career might have been salvaged if we had kept Perry... He probably could have learned a lot from Worm.

This article is interesting. They say he had surgery in November and now they plan to go in again and remove some hardware that is irritating him during his rehab.

When I wanted irritating hardware removed (a clavicle plate), the first thing the doctor told me was I had to wait 12 months before he would do that. (In my case it had already been 18 months). I’m not sure why they are rushing in again before he’s actually healed.

I'm basing this on my local footy team here in Australia, but we had a player undergo minor surgery to remove a couple of screws out of their ankle as it was causing irritation and started to become infected. Could possibly be the same thing here.

Well, for sure if it's getting infected you don't mess around with that. Hopefully Hampus will be fine.

1 - wtf is a “fractured patella tendon”? I’m not sure if it’s a ruptured/torn tendon or a fractured patella, or both.

2 - if it’s a tendon, that’s a different healing process than a bone, so that’ll play into it. There is also a massive difference between the motions in a knee vs a collarbone, so that’ll play into could play into it as well.

3 - it may not be ALL the hardware, just the parts that may be causing some irritation and unwanted scarring, or possibly parts that are infected.

From the horse's mouth (Sweeney) it was a fractured patella. And supposedly everything is healing fine but somehow Hampus was pushing too hard in order to come back and they want to give him more time to heal naturally after removing the irritating hardware.

Some of that tends to make me scratch my head as to having a "serious injury" that is healing well after surgery but needs more time to heal "naturally" after a second surgery to remove the hardware.

I guess it's all typical NHL injury double speak. I suppose the Ducks would have just called it an LBI.
