Adam Henrique is having a bad season in Edmonton. Remember when people didn't like the Henrique trade and preferred to keep him to re-sign him ? Not even playing with RNH, Drai, Kane or McDavid is helping him.
Getting a 1st for him was worth it in hindsight.

I actually looked at the numbers, it is pretty underwhelming. He has 15 points in 52 games. You know who has 15 points in 51 games? Sam Carrick

I thought Strome would decline much more than Henrique but its gone the other way.
Now 16 in 54 games. If he can't produce on that Oilers team he looks done. If he's still under contract next season perhaps the Oilers try to dump him with 2nd round pick back to Anaheim. That would mean the Ducks get a 2nd + 1st for trading Henrique to the Oilers lol.

Henrique is getting up there in age, but I think reading into his stat line is a bit misleading. He hasn't played with any of the Oilers' top players (except briefly last season) and he has been stritcly employed with defensive duties. As a center he now has to cover more ice, which he didn't have to consistently do here. His minutes are down too, and him being in a defensive role I think the expectation for prodcution has shifted. It's much harder to score with just 0:38 PP TOI/G also, which takes away ~ 20 points that he usually contributed here playing bigger minutes.

He still takes key face-offs, is relied on match-ups and his versatility is nice to have. I liked him last playoffs, most of the time, but I haven't watched him much this season. Maybe he's washed now I don't know. However his role is obviously very different than it was here, and with his ice-time/employment it would be foolish to expect him produce like he did here.

I bet Oilers' were pretty happy with him helping them made cup final last season, and I bet veteran of his ilk will be good to have for this run too. I gladly took the 1st they got for him, but honestly If the offer would've been late 2nd instead, and Rico would've liked to re-sign here... I wouldn't have mind keeping him. Reliable, versatile forward who wins draws sure would be of help. Especially good fit to Cronin-hockey™ as well.

You could argue he's more of the same what we have, but there's a lot of guys in here I'd love to replace with Rico.

Not even remotely surprised about the season he is having. Our guys always improve going somewhere else, and not only that he's a goalie too, and do we ever have suck at the net?

Good for him.

We actually did rehabilitate Stolarz. Stolarz was posting up great number here as a backup. It wasn't until the Verbeekening Year 1 that his play dipped, but that's because it was a crap team in front of him. Then once he has a better team in front of him, particularly playoff teams, then his production increases.

Anaheim had drafted Dostal in 2018. He was posting great numbers before going NA. Dostal was able to play backup to Stolarz since 2020-21 in the AHL. Dostal would give the Ducks longevity in net. Today, Stolarz is 31 years old and Dostal is 24 years old.

I'm happy that Stolarz has found a team that would make him into a starter.

What is sad is that layering we had from top vets, to good vets, to youth doesn't exist much anymore under Verbeek. We had Reimer and have Dansk (in AHL) this season. We don't have that bridge between youth and good vet in the AHL.

When people talk about the Ducks' draft struggles, I think they mean that the Ducks don't have any internally drafted or developed stars. But I think there's a couple things wrong with that perception:

1. The team is very good at churning out players like Sam Steel - solid players who provide value in the middle/bottom of your lineup. I think that's a repeatable skill from the scouting department and they've shown themselves to be adept at it.

2. The players they've drafted who HAVE turned into stars do so with other teams (Theodore, Karlsson, Montour). That speaks to deficiencies in their player development program rather than their drafting, something I felt to be true essentially since Murray took over. Whether Verbeek's team is any good at remains to be seen.

Anyway, good for Steel. He's one of those guys who needed a change of scenery to find his niche, but he probably could have been this for us under better coaching.

Differing Opinions/perceptions of the Ducks drafting of forwards outside of lotto picks has long been one of the central debates on this board. I think everyone is generally happy with the defensemen we’ve drafted.

I think generally people are complimentary of our scouting staff.

Theodore was a young star with us. It was unfortunate about the VGK entry draft, the Ducks NMC pre-VGK, and having a lot of defensemen while a playoff team. I was sadden when Theo was shipped b/c he was my fav prospect at the time. I was fortunate to get his autograph during those rookie tourney post game signing events.

Under Murray, they have been very successful at drafting and developing defensemen. It is scary to think the Ducks' org are terrible at developing d-men when the reason Theodore was left exposed (traded) was due to the Ducks having too many d-men to protect at the VGK expansion draft that included several Ducks drafted d-men in Lindholm and Fowler. Also, the org still had in their system Manson, Larsson, Monty, Vatanen, and Pettersson.

Karlsson and Montour didn't break out until their third NHL club. Karlsson went from Anaheim to Columbus and then was exposed to the VGK expansion draft. Monty went from Anaheim to Buffalo and from Buffalo to Florida. But Monty only played like a star in one year with Florida or his entire NHL career.

Oddly enough, Karlsson's problem was his inability to adapt to NA play (mostly his attitude about being demoted to the AHL). And when two orgs let you go, then maybe it is not completely the org's at fault for the lack of development. OTOH, Terry had a different mindset when he was demoted to the AHL for lack of production at the NHL level, but the org was patient with him and it paid dividends for the org in Terry's D+7 season. It also helped that his AHL coach when Terry first started his pro career would be his NHL coach in Eakins.
