Larsson will also be a more of a "what if" than a true bust for me. He was looking pretty damn good at a young age before the major injury
Curious what you remember seeing that was promising. To me, he was our Peter Holland of dmen draft picks - Absolutely as vanilla as they come.

He was looking like another quality D prospect find for a couple years there post draft, not as high upside as others but still intriguing. Most notably when he broke camp with the Ducks in his D+2, jumping both Theodore and Montour in the queue (despite them being two and three years older). Didn't have their offensive side but appeared like he should have a long career as a smooth skating, minute muncher if more of the quiet/unassuming type. Then it was at the end of that same year (his age 19 season) where he has the major knee surgery and I don't think he ever quite looked the same.

Fair enough.

2015 is definitely not one of the more frustrating drafts for us IMO because we were picking late and we still got Terry out of it, although we did miss out on a couple very good players that went in the 2nd round. But yeah not nearly as disappointing as some other years.

I think what was most disappointing was this common theme that sort of accumulated over the years of missing out on players (especially forwards) drafted in the 2nd round and beyond. You can’t blame them for any one pick/player or draft even but it’s really the accumulation over time that’s kind of frustrating. Could argue we still are struggling with that under Verbeek as well.

Look how well Stefan Noesen is doing right now. 11 points in 12 games. I know he wasn't drafted by Anaheim but he was a part of the Bobby Ryan deal and I believe he was a player Anaheim wanted in the draft but Ottawa got him first.

Noesen did his job for us when he was drafted ahead of us by Ottawa at 21st overall. He was our target at 22nd and we traded down with the Leafs for the 30th and 39th picks in the same draft. The 30th was Rakell and 39th was Gibby. Kinda funny we got Noesen later on in the Bobby Ryan trade.

We’re approaching November and Tracey is still just sitting unsigned. Was on a PTO with AHL Tucson but did not end up getting into any games before getting released.

No one said they were "upset." But if you're paying attention, these are not Leason and McGinn clones. Both those guys are now solid third liners putting up nice offensive numbers, playing great supporting roles, and hitting guys like wrecking balls. Sherwood leads the league with 57 hits in 8 games. I'd sure as hell love that on the team, and I'd bet PV would too.

Sure, I probably would have made the same decision the org did years back. Is what it is. But doesn't mean it doesn't suck.
And when Sherwood goes 2 months without scoring a goal, making few hits and being healthy scratched he'll go back to what he always has been, a fringe 4th liner / AHL 1st line player.

Noesen similarly has a hot start, but he at least has a couple of years of being a decent fringe 3rd line/4th line player that gets insulated playing on a great team.

Tracey did play one pre-season game with the roadrunners and earned 2 assists. I was surprised the AHL club didn't sign him. Maybe his agent isn't doing Tracey any favors.

Don't want to speculate but I really do wonder if there's some sort of behind the scenes issue that we aren't privy to but teams are that makes them uninterested

I will never understand why they drafted Mitera. I actually tried looking into scouting reports from that era, but from what I can gather, he seemed to be quite the reach..
I think they were looking for a solid d-man with size and he had just completed his freshmen season at Michigan playing well as an 18 year against 20-22 year olds. He just didn’t develop well after that, and I think there was a bad injury in 08-09.

Some of the Burke draft picks are crazy. Almost funny to think about what he saw in those guys.
i'm guessing in mitera they saw a guy who wasn't afraid to play physical and could add a touch of offense here and there. his numbers improved every year at michigan until he messed up his ACL his senior year. that was pretty much the nail in the coffin for him

macmillan i have no idea what they saw. if i recall, he wasn't even ranked anywhere near where the ducks drafted him at. just an all around bad pick

out of all four drafts under burke; ryan, beleskey, gardiner, and schultz were the only guys who amounted to anything at the NHL level. and only two of those guys played a game for the ducks

Yeah, I'm in Halifax and had credentials with the Mooseheads during that time. He had a really strong second half and playoff, so I think he caught a lot of attention playing alongside Voracek.

Was a late riser, but a lot of services did have him as a late first, maybe not as high as Anaheim though: 2007 Mock Draft Comparison

I liked him as a player, got to know his father a bit through being in the press box.

The year after he was drafted he suffered a concussion and that really set him back. Was never really the same player, to be honest.

Macmillan was average-sized, probably would have projected to be more of a two-way guy. Maybe an Anthony Cirelli type guy.

Born and raised in NS.

A passenger on the well-established Halifax-> Anaheim hockey pipeline: Giguere, Chouinard, DiPenta, Groulx and also guys like Swan, MacMillan, Morand and, my first interview ever, George Davis!

I was just looking at how Silf was doing with Brynas. He's leading his team in scoring, tied for first with 12 points (5g + 7a). Brynas is the 2nd best team currently in the SHL with 30 points (7-4-1-3). Record Key: regulation wins (3 pts) - OT wins (2 pts) - OT loss (1 pt) - regulation loss (0 pts)

Then I started noticing other former Ducks or Duck prospects on the roster in F Jack Kopaca, RD Axel Andersson, and LD Christian Djoos. Kopaca is 26 years old and found a scoring touch last year with Brynas, scoring 46 points (33g, 13a) in 49 SHL games.

Getzlaf interviewed in the last Missing Curfew podcast. He said he likes to be part of building a championship team. I haven't listened to this fully yet, just bits and pieces here an there. But interpret that as he's going to pursue a front office gig in the NHL. He also mentioned that "the Ducks stuff wasn't really working the way they wanted" so he joined Parros in DoPS. I wonder what wasn't working out? Don't think there's a huge drama there but maybe Getzy wanted a bigger role than PV was willing to give, just speculating. Not sure if there's something there between them, but I guess I'm not expecting Getzy to join the Ducks org next.

Hello my friends,

I could not find this info anywhere I guess since it was so long ago.

But did Getzlaf and Perry start on the same line their debut year? If so, was there a concern playing two rookies with each other?

12:35 min a game for Getzlaf
11:34 min a game for Perry
