Two years to go thru the system. No nhl team will want the PR of having them around. Even if found not guilty, they are a pr nightmare.Their careers probably over with. It will take years to drag through the courts
I guess I never gave into that stuff and don’t drink much, so I will never truly understand. These kids are put on a world stage and the adults who are in charge either encourage this stuff or ignore it. It gives us men a really bad image. No wonder some women are fearful.Exact. But peers pressure + alcool = recipe for catastrophies. Teenage boys and young men are ready to do anything to impress girls and friends. They also want to be part of the pack - part of the team fully. That's what coaches since they started playing the game have repeated to them over and over.
Hockey Canada will keep the suspension for the whole 2018 team until all the justice process is over. So does it mean a guy like Makar could not represent Canada at the next Olympics ? Who else ?
They'll lift it by then.Hockey Canada will keep the suspension for the whole 2018 team until all the justice process is over. So does it mean a guy like Makar could not represent Canada at the next Olympics ? Who else ?

I mean... There's a super good rationale for not having him suspended in the first place. It will likely be lifted.
In the case it isn't, you can be sure there will be a special exemption granted to Makar.
I don't disagree with that. This whole "suspend the whole team" thing is dumb. Especially for players like Makar and Mete (and few others) who even demonstrably clearly had nothing to do with that.I mean... There's a super good rationale for not having him suspended in the first place.
Imagine getting suspended from work because your coworkokers did some really nasty shit at or after an office party to which you weren't even invited.
There was an appeal of some sorts to their report launched by some players, and I guess that, in order to not single out anyone, they decided to issue a blanket ban (that's the "good" scenario, the bad being the PR motivations). It's so stupid to suspend the entire team. What is the rationale behind it? Some players were no where close to London on that day.
Lose two years ruin their career. They maybe innocent. Two years to go thru the system. No nhl team will want the PR of having them around. Even if found not guilty, they are a pr nightmare.
At best, if not jail, the khl.
Folks, go talk about ‘woke’ in another forum.
It is not 'stupid'. It is outrageous, the heads of Hockey Canada should be fired and banned from ever having a public trust again. It's so stupid to suspend the entire team. What is the rationale behind it? Some players were no where close to London on that day.
I didn't know that. First thought: We should keep hockey rules and the criminal code separate. Individuals committed a crime for their own purposes, not on behalf of their team, and certainly not on behalf of the NHL team they weren't even playing for at the time. NHL teams have already lost these kids as players, so why should they be further punished by being stuck with their caps?Calgary, Philadelphia and New Jersey are getting cap relief for the 4 players involved. Why? Unless there is something that covers this in the CBA they shouldn't be getting anything. Is there cap relief for teams with players in the Player Assistance Program?
Yeah, this won't hold up if challenged. Hockey Canada needs to show contrition, so we're seeing this type of posturing. Hopefully, they'll let time pass and quietly correct this ruling, then get to work addressing real issues within their ranks. It is not 'stupid'. It is outrageous, the heads of Hockey Canada should be fired and banned from ever having a public trust again.
This type of thing should NEVER happen in a free country. Who the hello are these suits at Hockey Canada to impose collective punishment on people who had nothing to do with a crime that has not even been proven in court yet? Many of them were not even in London! Or in Canada!!
Imagine if it is discovered that five members of Parliament are suspected of a crime, so the entire Parliament is suspended and not allowed to represent the country?
I expect someone is going to sue over this, and win.
"They may be" you meant to write.Lose two years ruin their career. They maybe innocent.

I believe you are mixing up some of the 2003 and 2018 sexual assaults. In the 2003 case is where there is video evidence of the players have sex with a incapacitated woman. This was on a vhs tape and it is probably long gone."They may be" you meant to write.
But, there is video evidence of them in a room with an incapacitated woman who was seen drinking with them and was then gang raped. The police and prosecutors then spent a very long time investigating before asking specific people to come in to surrender themselves. The players may get off, but they certainly are not innocent. Even people on their team said things like, I am glad I was not there, or I am glad not to be associated with that affair. Almost certainly, all 5 of them had sex with a near unconscious woman while a bunch of other guys stood around and watched.
Yeah, I'm pretty certain they were all involved as that the legal system probably put the bar high in threshold of evidence before calling them in. And if they did do what they are accused of, they are truly in need of some punishment because either they are predators or stupid assed people who succumb to peer-pressure way too easily.
And if they are innocent (highly unlikely), they will then sue the legal system for millions of lost revenue.
When you say ruin their careers, though, do you think of the woman and her psyche after what she experienced. Do you know that rape has a very bad impact on a person's life, much more a gang rape. Did you know that people often commit suicide or battle life long depression?
It is easy to get caught up in your love for hockey and elite athletes, but when they do something wrong, they are not above the law. The law should be blind, and if these young athletes gang raped a woman, then they should be held accountable, and if that impacts their lives negatively, then maybe the good is that it will help their victim heal a bit.
You should think about who you want to protect in this world. Victims or predators?
I'm not mixing them up. "Consensual" sex with one player who then invited a gang of guys up without her knowing it is what I am talking about. In the videos that she is recorded in, apparently she is seen as very incapacitated.I believe you are mixing up some of the 2003 and 2018 sexual assaults. In the 2018 case the woman went back to the hotel and has consensual sex with 1 player. Who then invited his teammates up without her knowing and this is where the accused sexual assault happened. She never said in any reports that she had blacked out. There are 2 short videos one 6 seconds and the other is 22 seconds. They were trying to document that she was consenting to the sex after the fact.
It is sad that people only recognize the consequences of others when they have a daughter or a sister. It indicates something very wrong with society that it takes us that long to discover that people deserve respect.feel so bad for the young gal. I have a daughter, sickens me
I misinterpreted when you wrote video evidence, I thought you meant the actual gang rape. Sorry for the confusion.I'm not mixing them up.
