Forbort's Next Contract

Kale Clague is as tough as wet toilet paper... The kid needs more physical development and should see no part of this **** show

Regardless, he needs to be evaluated this year and next. We need to protect 3D for the Seattle draft. Doughty(NMC), Clague Walker, Roy and Forbort if he is still on the team next summer will need to be exposed and 2 from that group (-Doughty NMC) will need protection.

Depends on the how they protect they're players.. They can choose to protect 8 skaters and a goalie..
Kopitar, Doughty and whoever else is left.. you do realize that as of right now, we only have 7 players signed to contracts for the 21-22 season right... at worse, we'd to protect the kids that breakthrough over the next 2 seasons..
F- Kopitar
D- Doughty, Walker, Roy
G- ???
Vilardi, Anderson, Bjornfot, Clague, JAD, etc would all be excluded as 1st/2nd year players...

I just realized that you are way, way overthinking this Mats.

Why exactly is that?

He's a big guy, physical, can score and set up plays, aka 12 goals and 35 points in 44 games, and he's an all-star. As far as how he fits, I don't care if you are a good or bad team, if you can add like him, you do it. Plus, he's liable to wake Drew up.

Depends on what next year's goals are, but there are some good UFAs available. Muzzin, for one. Barrie or Shattenkirk or Vatanen since the PP needs a shot though he'll likely be looking for long-term security and we're good on RHD. Brodie, Tanev, Edmundson...if we want some toughness, there's Dillon (ew), Bogosian, or...drum roll...Gudas. I also like Hamonic.

Crazy amount of forwards available too. I'd take a swing at Leivo. There's also Kreider, or Kassian for toughness.

But I can see a little bit of Blake's philosophy, typically those guys are easier and cheaper to get as UFAs.

Cool you mention Gudas. He was a favorite of Hextall when they were with Philly. Hextall even traded for him.

And Gudas can play, and will force emotional engagement since he's good for doing something over the edge every ten games or so. At this point...lol

I doubt Forbort is retained for a couple reasons. Someone will offer him more years than the Kings will want. I'd be fine with a year or two, but DF shouldn't be. He should be looking to cash in whatever he can. Also, he's not a typical McClellan defensman. TM likes mobility and guys who can transition, and Forbort hasn't shown that since he came up.

What he brings is easily replaceable with a shorter term UFA signing.

Forbort is extremely unspectacular but a bit underrated, too. He is the prototypical "you never notice him" d-man because he's so boring and solid. Underlying numbers have been good in the few games he's been back.

We should have 1 of Forbort/Martinez and MacD back next year. Need a vet to eat some minutes.
Wouldn't want to have all 3 of Clague, Anderson and Bjornfot in the NHL next year as our starting left side.

I agree. Need some insulation. Expecting a bunch of 2nd year pros to play 82 games on this team is unfair to them. Having a vet in front of them gives everyone ample rest, press box time, development time, etc. and also some injury insurance. Imagine who comes up if those three are on the left? Someone is getting absolutely crushed, may as well be Forbort.

No, you don't add a huge salary when you're 'attempting' to try and get rid of them.

Petro will be cashing in (especially since he helped take them to a cup) and a team like ours is the last team in the NHL that should give it to him.

WHO we should sign if we are able to unload Marty for a 1st (since he has an extra year on his contract) is a stop gap or two to eat up minutes. I'd even bring back Hutton for 2 years if he's cheap again.

Pros:
Good positionaly. Good stick.

Cons:
Lacks physicality. Regularly loses puck battles.
Puck watching is his favorite sport. That guy over there? The one completely free who just scored against us? Yeah, that was my man. But the puck was over here. So pretty.
Middling hockey IQ.

Next contract:
Somewhere else. Please.

I would usually agree but I don’t think I can take another craptastic year.

Amart is probably better to keep than Forbort honestly. Only a year left and can be moved next year. Forbort won’t sign a one year deal.

Anderson played two years at college and a year of AHL now.

Clague has had enough AHL.

Bjornfot could stay down but we will see how his camp goes.

It's likely to be a craptastic year regardless...I'd rather weather it with Forbort getting his face beaten in, rather than ruining a good prospect.

No reason to rush Anderson or Bjornfot. Are they completely dominating in Ontario? If not, they're not ready. Their play dictates wether or not they deserve to come up and stick, not the fans, coaching staff, or GM.

Clague can continue knocking on the door and Forbort can be signed for pennies. If he wants more, he'll have to test the free agency waters.

I didn't miss him while he was gone. I hope Forbort gets in 10-15 games and gets traded for a 3rd round pick. As for his contract, I just don't care so long as it's not with the Kings. Another in a long line of boring Kings playing boring hockey.

Yes, we get it--Forbort is boring and we're sick of a boring team.

Who replaces him AND Martinez AND Ryan AND Hutton?

It’s not boring it’s flaccid.

Ryan and Hutton were lucky to sign in LA. They are fringe at best. If needed both could be resigned or let go with equal measure.

At least one of Forbort or Amart should be gone by deadline and the other by next. Kings seemed fine without both honesty, at least no different. I wouldn’t bat an eye if both were moved if the price fits.

Vilardi
JAD
Anderson
Clague
Bjornfot

Should all come to camp trying to earn a spot. Will they all get it, unlikely.

You’ve got to turn this roster over at some point. I get you can’t have fifteen rookies but the roster should start looking different next year. And yes they need to earn it, that is a given. It doesn’t have to be either extreme. No rookies/all rookies.

I agree with you, my response is to those jettisoning all of the above, leaving us

Doughty/Bjornfot
Clague/Walker
Anderson/Roy
MacDermid

to start next year. That's problematic. That's how you end up with an Edmonton situation. Keep Forbort or Martinez, fire Hutton and Ryan into the sun, i don't care. But don't purge ALL the vets before the kids are ready.

I keep Martinez. Turns out he's the right partner for Drew Doughty. Who knew? Ryan has no trade value, so it doesn't really matter if he stays or goes. Trade Hutton and Forbort for picks.

Say one current Reign D makes the team (Bjornfot, Anderson, LaDue)
You can run out
Martinez-Doughty
Bjornfot/Anderson- Walker
Clague-Roy
MacDermid/LaDue

It's not as ugly as you might think.
