As
@LionsHeart said, a true reality check game. The Giants are still a looooong way from being anything near an actual contender.
And though he-who-shall-not-be-named is gone, we still live in his shadow. It completely boggles the mind that THIS ROSTER started the season with the second-highest cap of any team in the league. Like, it's soooo bad that it's almost a marvel to behold. The Giants have no WRs, no LBs, 1 CB, no O-line depth, no D-line depth, no TEs, (IMO) no QB, an RB who is likely gone after this season, and most shockingly - NO CAP SPACE. How do you even pull that off???? Honestly, if you TRIED to construct a worse roster what are the odds/luck that you would screw up your way into an actually better team than Gettleman put together?
I respect that playing as a rookie OT is brutal and I think we'll have to give Neal a break the entire season but he was getting abused. KT finally played and did nothing. Did Ojulari even play? Everyone talking about the Giant's pash rush finally healthy and coming back for this game and it was the worst showing our D-line has had all year. Definitely highlights how important Leonard Williams is. Oh, wait, that reminds me, did he-who-shall-not-be-named use a top-20 pick on an interior lineman who actually did play but was a complete non-factor? God the incompetence of that man is mind-numbing.
I continue to put my faith in Schoen/Daboll/Wink, but as was always the case, the Giants clearly have a long way to go. IMO they will need to NAIL this upcoming draft just to have a league-average roster next season - and it seems draft success is at best around a 50/50 proposition even if you're one of the BEST scouting teams. Not to mention they're probably drafting a QB with their first pick next year. Which means NEXT year is probably another "development" season with a rookie QB. And let's hypothesize they trade for Lamar, who is he throwing to? Golladay sucks. Shepherd's career looks likely over due to injuries. Toney can't stay healthy even 50% of the time. Wan'Dale is 5'8". And there won't be any money for a legit #1. Maybe Odell comes back for a discounted contract? Do you PAY Saquon and hope he, Lamar, and a bunch of no-name receivers can carry an offense to a Superbowl?
It's way too early to say but we still don't even know if KT, Ojulari, and Neal will even be the answers at their respective positions. Next season this team may still find itself in need of a #1 QB, RB, MLB, WR, CB, EDGE, RT, TE, OLB.
But at least I'm confident a buffoon is not still in charge of the franchise. I do believe in the future of the Giants but I also believe it's a long time coming and I hope the press and fans don't turn on a front office/coaching staff I believe can get us there just because things have been so bad for so long that they don't give this current regime an honest chance. Despite being so bad for so long, they are quite literally building from less than zero this season.
