He’s better than Devito lol

and clearly the giants think so too because they would have named him the starter if they thought he would give them a better chance to lose

This sounds like circular logic to me.

OL: The Giants only made Devito the starter so they can lose games.

How do you know they want to lose games?

OL: Because they made it the starter.

Sure it’s circular logic if your head is stuck in the sand lol

The team stinks, they know the year is over. They’re benching Jones so he doesn’t get injured, and putting their worst QB in as the starter.

But yeah, totally not clear on whether they’re committed to losing games

Benching Jones is both a contract move and a football move. He's terrible. It's not to "lose games". I'm not convinced that playing him isn't the way to go if they just want to lose as much as possible. Daboll's future with the team is uncertain there's no way he's tanking. The idea that not playing Drew f***ing Lock is proof the team is tanking is preposterous.

Snowblind, you win...DJ is ass lol. I didn't think he was great but for a while I thought you could potentially win with him if he was surrounded by enough talent, especially on the OL.

Also, I'm reluctant to move on from a QB unless it's absolutely necessary because it's so hard to find another QB who can give the team a chance to win each week. That being said, it's obvious that DJ isn't it. He might be shell shocked from all the hits he's taken over the years but his timing and overall decision making is just awful and the NYG need to move on.

I still think the OL needs to be better along with CB and LB at a minimum. I'm okay keeping Daboll and Schoen around for stability.

Even without the injury clause, Jones play deserves benching. He’s been awful.

I actually would not be surprised if Devito is better than Lock lol. I don’t think the Giants beat staff has said a single good thing about him since he signed.

IIRC he had a bad training camp. He was bad in preseason and bad in his limited action against the Eagles the other week. He really just might suck. Which makes it more hilarious to give him $5 million lol.

Drew actually looked pretty good last season vs Philly in a prime time game. I do not judge him based on preseason behind a horrible line of 2nd and 3rd stringers. I do not know if Drew is good overall but I enjoyed watching him beat Philly. Also looked good another time I saw him come in for Geno during a game. Lastly he seems like a great guy. I'm not thrilled by Devito's nonsense. It got a bit old for me.

I used to think all of this too. I thought Joe Judge and Jason Garrett killed him mentally. They still did kind of but I also now think he was never good. I lost confidence in him last year against Seattle.

I remember for years Jets fans treating Douglas as a genius because of one draft. I know Jets fans on HF are miserable but they're also miserable about the Rangers. The feeling I got from most Jets fans was what a great team they had minus the quarterback and coach and Douglas was great at building that.

I don't remember anyone refering to him as a genius. Hitting on a few 1st round picks in a season is nice but pretty much expected. But a team can't be successful if you only hit on your 1st rounders, especially if you screw up on the QB.

Jets (and most fans) concentrated on everything but THE main reason we can't win: the lack of an o-line.

Genius is overblown but he got an undeserved rep off mostly one (albeit good) draft.

Jones sucks. He honestly should have never started a single game this season with the sword of damocles that is his injury guarantee casting a shadow over each play.

Daboll was obviously trying to win. He was calling designed runs over and over again trying to play to Jones' only strength, knowing the dude could get smoked at any moment and cost the team tens of millions of dollars in the coming seasons. If your QB can't push the ball down the field occasionally, it's very hard to win in this league. The amount of times Jones just flat out missed wide open receivers was frankly baffling. He's a good kid, and I've never rooted for him to fail, but he's way past his expiration date at this point.

If they're giving up on the season, DeVito is obvious choice. Lock is a journeyman, and it's not inconceivable that they want to see what they have in DeVito prior to the draft. Not that DeVito changes the calculus for the top of the draft, but they may want to move on from him as well with a developmental QB pick in the 5th round or later, depending on what they see.

As I posted 2 years ago, I can't believe any Jets fan thought Rodgers was still good. In his entire career he has won 1 conference title and has less 4th quarter comebacks than Jay Cutler.
