Aren't we still leading the division? How are people thinking we're going to wreck our season in December when we're still in first place? We'd have to lose every game for the rest of the month, and that is unlikely.

Yes, the trend of 4 losses in a row is concerning. Yes, the lack of finishing is frustrating. But far more often than not, they will win games where the shot disparity looks like this.
Common sense spoken in the form of typing.

Unlikely but not impossible with that schedule, that's where the panic is coming from.

Not impossible, but still unlikely. This is a good team, and it can hang with the other top teams in the league.

Let's act like it, rather than shitting our pants at the thought of tough opponents and marking them down as automatic losses.

Lol. What is it that you’re seeing that makes you believe they will go into a death spiral? You think a team that’s been averaging 4 goals a game and just doubled up the shots and chances on their opponent is going to suddenly become a 2 goal per game team for the rest of the season?

These takes are absurd.

They are young and mentally fragile. Can't put the puck in the net. Incapable of playing from behind and now on an extended losing streak.

A lot of of this luck driven and things going the other way from where they were a month ago. But I can look at the schedule for the rest of the month. Even playing well Carolina, Boston and Florida aren’t easy games. This is a still a young team and and they are still human. Given the schedule one can easily turn into a mental thing where it end up not playing well as a result.

They just outplayed 3 teams 5v5 and lost, how is what happened in November the lucky part but this is the part that's the reality of this team? You can't just pick and choose shit to fit your narrative. They're clearly somewhere in the middle of that W13 and L4 right now.

when people are going to rant and rave like children after a couple losses in a row, games in which they did not even play badly, yes I am going to respond. ESPECIALLY after what this team did for 2 months to start the year.
It’s like the first 2 games of the season in here. Sky is falling! Anyone that watched the game knows the Devs absolutely should have scored more than they did. Their play tonight was fine.

NJ is still a young team and a work in progress. They are missing a couple of guys that would help in a game like this and the Flyers got a nice night out of Hart. If you can’t see the difference between tonight and last season maybe you should consult with an optometrist.
Thank you.

bro they completely dominated this game. Sometimes you get goalie'd.

I would be way more concerned longterm if we got cratered consistently but were pulling out miracle wins
Agree to a point - Just thought this was a game that they needed. Especially with the schedule they have coming up. Take the 2 points here to stabilize and feel better about your game.

Didn't happen and it's not the end of the world but it ain't good either

Pitt winning. Canes won. Rangers won. Shits falling apart
It's better for us that the Pens won tonight, as it takes points from a team on the bubble that's probably underachieving and having a bad season.

Pittsburgh and the Canes are making the playoffs anyway. Pittsburgh beat the Panthers in regulation, which is really good for us and the teams that are in the playoffs right now.

The Rangers? Not so much of a slam dunk, nor are the Islanders.

And the Caps were one of the hottest teams going recently and they lost in regulation.

If we're looking at other teams I would say we need to be more worried about Florida (who lost in regulation, that's good for us), Islanders and Rangers.

I would say the Caps too, but they're still 10 points behind and I think we even have 2 games in hand.

I think we'll still make the playoffs, but we probably won't win the division. I was never convinced we were winning the division.

And yes, Ruff will be fired in the case we miss or possibly before that if things get too bad, in an effort to save the season ala the 2009 Pens, as he's a lame duck (as far as we know) right now.

But it's way too early for that kind of talk yet.

It would be one of the worst collapses of all time.

I'm pretty confident this is a market correction.

We were also shooting a bit above league average. Way above league average at 5 on 5, but our pathetic power play is keeping us closer to the overall league average in shooting percentage.

This can't possibly be your takeaway from this game. We normally win this game 4 or 5 to 1, I don't care who the goalie is. That's how hockey goes sometimes.

You've seen the last 3 years - Tell me tonight and Tuesday don't look remarkably familiar?

Can't fall into the old habits. Especially now. When they are out of it in November you can look at it with a bit of complacence. I think it's more concerning at this point.

Is the season over? No, but this was a get well game with 2 against Boston/Florida/Carolina and 1 against Pittsburgh coming up, this game was one I think you needed as a reset.

Like watching Rocky 327.

How did getting beat once and one errant breakdown prevent the Devils from scoring an even strength goal?

The game-winning goal was scored with two defensemen on the ice who make nearly $14 million combined.

Think that's a bit bigger issue than Brendan Smith's play.

Perspective.
Oh my god.

My takeaway of the game wasn't "Smith sucks"

Secondary scoring and scoring from the defense has dried up.

A win or two against some of these tough opponents coming up would be huge though. Just have to keep pushing forward and get through this slump.

Why do you care what someone else acts like...just ignore it. Attacking the whole board solves nothing.
Would be nice if the same thing was said to constantly negative posters who quote and shit on everyones parade after a game they battled hard in.

Hard to respect fans that peace out when things get tough and only show up when they win. Good lord, Devils fans can be spoiled brats.
Decade plus of irrelevance. You all can enjoy watching the 18 wheeler continue to tailspin. Not worth the aggrivation for me I’ve learned over the past few. Out of sight out of mind and I can just check out of it all.

The team was a f***ing basement dweller last season. They burst onto the scene and went on a crazy run. It’s a team none of us expected to be first in the division. Most agreed we’d be HAPPY with a wild card and content just being in the mix. This is adversity for a young team that needs to learn how to overcome these hurdles. I have faith this group will turn it around and so should you.

Which part? Not winning the division? Market correction? Ruff's status?

We coughed up a lot of our division league. We can very easily be in 3rd place this time next week and in the wild card by new years.

Zero gimme games the next two weeks, schedule is super bunched up now.

but my point is that their play was totally stabilized. They played a great game....they just got goalie'd. how many times did they get robbed? If Hart missed any of those and we got a win in OT or SO or something, no one would be bitching and moaning would they?

again, i’ve seen this kind of post a million times. i know, next you’re going to tell me how many points we are off the league lead and i’m overreacting.

we ‘dominate’ everywhere except the scoreboard these days. my recommendation is to stop being so flabbergasted when people express real concerns.
