Top prospect Cutter Gauthier traded to Ducks after refusing to sign with Flyers

The Philadelphia Flyers traded top forward prospect Cutter Gauthier to the Anaheim Ducks on Monday. In exchange, the Flyers will receive defenceman Jamie Drysdale and a second-round draft pick in 2025.

“This is a trade we felt we needed to make as a player with Cutter’s dynamic skill set are not available often,” Ducks general manager Pat Verbeek said in a statement. “We see Cutter as a long-term, high-end player who produces in big moments. We also want to thank Jamie for his four years in Anaheim. It is a difficult trade to make as he has a great future in front of him both on and off the ice.”

Drysdale, 21, was the sixth-overall selection in the 2020 NHL Draft and has 45 points in 137 NHL games. He missed a majority of 2022-23 and the start of this season with a shoulder injury, but has five points in 10 games since returning to the lineup.

I'm not criticizing him individually but with the way "the system" works I really hate these NCAA picks being able to dictate where they go - same with Fox and NYR.

I have always hated this. They need to make a change. Mike Van Ryn, Adam Fox, Jim Vesey - there needs to be a way that that they fix this so they can't just become UFA without some sort of compensation.
