Flyers Regular Season Discussion Thread III

Laughton is only 22.....

Still time. He was always projected as a 3rd liner in my eyes. He can still fit there, whether with the Flyers or not.

Laughton had plenty of opportunities and never made the most of them. The most dissapointing aspect for me has been compete level. His puck pursuit was downright awful in many games. He would coast to the puck instead of churn his legs. I dont feel any sympathy for the place his career is in right now.

agreed... hes had plenty of tries..

bust... time to move on

Namestnikov is absolutely a player I target. Right now, the Lightning can't protect him, and even if they managed to unload Filppula, you'd imagine they'd protect Killorn over Vlad. He just seems like someone who is on the bubble of that team for some reason. He got healthy scratched recently, he's not getting protected....it all adds up. Last season, in his first full year, he was really productive in both scoring and the advanced metrics. He'd probably be able to be gotten for a fair price.

If they trade Johnson, he would be expensive to acquire. He's still an RFA too on his next contract. I don't think he makes a lot of sense, even though I'd like him. And, especially with Stamkos always in and out and being in win-now mode, I still think they do what they can to keep him (they may not be able to). But Namestnikov is a trade candidate who really should be sniffed out.

Another player who is struggling that I would flip Laughton for is Girgensons.

In a thread on the main board, Buffalo fans were cool with it too.

At the very worst, he is a good defensively #3 C.

Another great idea. You should just email Hextall directly when you have these thoughts :yo: I really think we can capitalize on this ED. It will be the greatest cash grab from an ED since Viagra.

There's a 2010 redraft thread going on in the Polls section. Depresses me how badly we did that year. From my reckoning we managed a grand total of 36 games from the entire draft.

Viagra is actually one of the most unlikely blockbuster drugs ever developed. It was originally tested as a blood pressure lowering medication, and the, umm, site-specific increase in blood flow was a side effect.

Tbf that is what happens when your earliest pick is 89th overall!
Yeah lol, can't expect to get many NHL players from a draft if you don't pick until the 3rd round.
Also it wasn't a particularly good draft anyway. The Ducks picked Emerson Etem with our pick and he hasn't been on the same team for more than two consecutive seasons since then.

I'll take Chris Pronger over that entire draft lol

"He really isn't coming down because of his performance, it's, I think, more of a positional thing," Phantoms' head coach Scott Gordon said. "They want Scott to be a center. Given the fact that Matt Read is winger, they want to have somebody go in his place and focus having Scott as a center."

Is Laughton's demotion and Taylor Leier's promotion based off of a positional need up top? It depends on who you ask.

"I played left wing last year, and at the end of the summer they told me I was going to start the year on left wing. So I'm not really sure," Laughton said when asked if his latest demotion was due to a positional need. "That's a better question for Hak or Hexy, but I'm not sure."

So why is Bellemare still playing? We all talk about VDV and Mac like they're the only problems in this team but PEB seems to escape most of the ire. He's crap at driving play, doesn't really net any points and drags down everyone he's with. I can handle him as a fourth liner at a stretch, but why does he persist on the 3rd?

Hak views him as the 3rd best defensive center on the team, so that becomes 2nd best with Couturier out. He doesn't trust Cousins or Schenn defensively down the middle, and the GM just put the other center in the AHL. So Bellemare gets the highest percentage of DZ starts.

Even if you included the goal he tipped but didn't get credit for his offensive production has been horrible in 16-17, but Bellemare was actually good at driving play when he was with Read this season.

However, Read is the best possession forward on the team.

In summary: :dunno:

2nd in GFA
7th overall in the NHL in points (I know more games played)
25th in GAA, but this is improving, almost under 3.00 per game.
2nd in the NHL in PP%
18th in the NHL in PK%

And we ***** and moan every day.

But that's only half of the story, really, and doesn't show our defensive frailties. Several of these games we have been winning we have done so by the seat of our pants and they could easily start going the other way if we don't shore up. Of course it's hard without Couts. Mase has been standing on his head and it would be nice if he didn't have to. It may just be a waiting game until we are healthy again.

But really, the moaning is an offshoot of our passion and is omnipresent across team boards on here - we purge and vent, then we get ready for the next game. Same as it ever was.

Yes, there have been some games where they have been beaten behind the toolshed, but there are some they dominated just as much. That NYR game was one, that was all them, they just didn't beat Hank and the Rangers capitalized on turnovers.
