I got a question for Appleyard if he has time to look at it.

Are the Flyers dmen contributing a strangely high percentage of the team's ES or 5 on 5 points? Just looking at our 5 on 5 points/60 there are a lot of dmen in the top half which was definitely not the case last year.

Im sure Hextall has been working the phones as we have extra dmen. Probably waiting until before Xmas or trade deadline to get the best deal. Moving Amac would be my first choice because of the contract, Streit because he really has hit a wall in my opinion would be second, don't think we can get much for Schultz.

Last night they showed graphic that said flyers d has 67 points combined and next best were Rags with 56 or something, so I guess so.

I would say, quite easily, yes. They're pretty much pacing with most of the top 9. I mean 5 of the Flyers d men are around the top 50 in d 5v5 scoring...and Ghost is the odd man out. 3 d in the top 20. And I'm not even including MDZ because of sample size, who would be #1 among d men!

But the system also emphasizes the defense shooting and jumping up too. It feels too high right now with the talent on the back end, but I think it's a trend that could relatively continue with Hakstol's system. And when you sub in players like Sanheim and Myers? Well then they may sustainably be near the top of the league annually.

Not only are the Flyers so far clear of the second-place Rangers in total ES D points, we have to account for the fact that the Rangers have the most ES goals in the league by a country mile. The Flyers' ratios are off the charts.

I got curious about Nashville for obvious reasons. This year, they have 35 points on 48 ES goals. Last year, they were at 113 points on 166 goals.

Leier recalled.

Laughton demoted.

I am happy and hopeful Leier gets his chance. He's ready 100%. I do wonder though if they move VDV to PEB's line and call that line 3 still. If so, yeesh.

But it's confusing to me. Read the LW goes down....Laughton is already there. They said they viewed him as a left winger going forward last season, but now seemingly he can only play center? Or they simply think Leier is better right now, which I probably agree with. The organization's view on Laughton is such a mystery.

I actually love that move. I still have no idea where Laughton slots into a lineup or what position he'll play at this level, but I think Leier is going to be a very useful bottom 6 player. Hopefully he plays well enough that they don't extend an offer to Vandevelde this offseason, but who knows anymore...

I think current Laughton is very much like Weal. Not good enough defensively to be a bottom 6 player and not good enough offensively to be a top 6 player.

Might be as simple as Leier has been tearing it up for the Phantoms.

But I would pay a lot to hear what Hexy says about Laughton (and all the guys) off the record.

And here I thought his calling card in the NHL would be his two way play.

Maybe this was a miss on his hockey IQ? Not as good as what people thought?

He seemed to play more aggressive before his concussion. Nowadays he seems to be reluctant to try something. At least that's the impression I get from watching him play.

I think we're pretty close to moving on here. He was perfectly fine in the two games he played, but he's just not going to get the opportunities here that he needs.

Sometimes you just miss the mark on your projections. I still think Laughton can be an NHLer but not really one of value. Basically a bottom six guy that jumps around from team to team.

Laughton had plenty of opportunities and never made the most of them. The most dissapointing aspect for me has been compete level. His puck pursuit was downright awful in many games. He would coast to the puck instead of churn his legs. I dont feel any sympathy for the place his career is in right now.

would a move of Laughton and a d-man bring back something decent..maybe someone else's bad pick? Sure seems like Laughton's days with the org are winding down

I would try to market Laughton to a team in a cap crunch who still sees value in him. Trade him + pick for a player like Tyler Johnson.

Laughton+Read+pick for Johnson. Retain on Read as well.

I would probably rather flip him for a pick at this point than try to bring a comparable player back. We have some prospects that are close both upfront & on the backend. So I would rather keep some flexibility there.

I wouldn't mind do a trade for Namestnikov. Maybe Laughton & a second rounder for him? If not I would try two second rounders then trade Laughton in a separate trade to get a pick back.
