I had a look at the standings today - it is going to be a grind to get into the playoffs.

Eastern Conference
ATLANTIC GP W L OTL PTS
Montreal 24 16 6 2 34
Ottawa 25 15 8 2 32
Boston 25 14 10 1 29
Tampa Bay 26 14 11 1 29

METROPOLITAN
NY Rangers 26 17 8 1 35
Pittsburgh 25 15 7 3 33
Columbus 23 14 5 4 32
Washington 23 13 7 3 29
Philadelphia 26 13 10 3 29

Just to be clear, I am not trying to panic and I do recognize how early it is. There are just a lot of competitive teams around us.

So after the update the rankings are:

MDZ 1st
Provy 11th
Mac 16th
Manning 24th
Streit 53rd
Gudas 63rd
Ghost 91st

Do we think MDZ could return a first rounder at the deadline?

I don't think there is any chance. I'd be psyched with a similar package to what we got for Timonen. A 2nd and a conditional 3rd.

Pittsburgh looks like they're going to move MAF by the deadline.

Any interest in swapping Mason for him? He's costly, $5,750,00 for the next two seasons, but no more than Mason and Neuvirth together right now. MAF could hold down the position until Lyon, Stollie or another one of the young guys is ready to take over. The Flyers are going to need a veteran after this season and Mason will probably be looking for more than he's getting now ($4.1M per)
Fleury could be a guy that needs to get away from the style of hockey that he has had to play under where he is facing so many odd man rushes. IDK what the Penguins would want in return for him. The salary relief would be a big plus for them since they're cap strapped. If they want a defenseman, MDZ, or Schultz might help them out. They don't have the room for Streit (or AMac )

No interest in Fleury. The fans would be all over him here and his playoff track record leaves a lot to be desired.

Plus, I don't want to help Pittsburgh out in any way, shape or form.

I understand your response. MAF has talent; quite athletic, and some SCs to show for it. I really don't know how good/bad he is playing goal in that pond hockey style that the Penguins use and then there is the defensemen that he has played behind. In a structured style he may be quite good. The guy probably has nightmares of facing odd man rushes every night.

One SC as a starter and that will be 8 years ago when next season starts.

He's a good goalie but I don't think he is any better than Mason and again, don't want to help Pitt out of their jam.

The issue with trading Streit without any contracts coming back, especially because of how much he costs. I think Edmonton could barely fit him in if we tried just getting like a 2nd/3rd rounder back.

Easy fix....we retain half the cap space.

Streit will get back a 2nd rd pick....I am confident in that. Same with MDZ.

Doubt they are going to be in a position to bring up two rookies unless they get hit with the plague. They still have Schultz and Morin and/or Sanheim won't jump MacDonald.

Read hurt his side or shoulder getting checked into the post. So Laughton or Gordon figure to get back in the lineup.
