And what top pairing Dman gets traded for a 3rd line C and a mid 1st?

We just saw Larsson go for a top 5 LW in the game.

Should have said that AA and 1st. would be part of a larger package for a top pair dman.
If those are the main pieces we can assume the rest are lesser ones. What team is trading a top pairing D for spare parts?

While Giroux is clearly a huge add and Detroit would be happy to have him, your logic about taking a couple more kicks at the can makes no sense

If they were going to take runs at the cup, they would've done it while Datsyuk was still around, no? Or how about Lidstrom?

Zetterberg is not capable of being an integral part of a cup run any longer and Franzen is LTIRetired
They did take plenty of runs when they still had Lidstrom. And they won the Cup. Not sure why you're acting like they didn't take runs at the Cup while Lidstrom was still around.

Neither team does this, or even thinks about it.

nothing good is going to come from this thread, unless you wanna switch the talks over to some detroit winger prospects for Philly d prospects...

While there´s absolutly no way the Flyers make this trade, I don´t think the Red Wings would either. They probably rather hang on to Larkin thinking long term

Yep, home-grown Michigan-born future Captain is more worth than anybody in the league right now, imho. For Red Wings.

Wings say yes.

I don't understand the Zetterberg hate. He has had 1 bad season.

So the wings trade their future replacement for Zetterberg for someone that is on the peak off his career and will have maybe 5 great years in him?
Wouldn't it make more sense for Red Wings to give Larkin the chance to get experience from playing playoff games even if it doesn't take them over the top? Then he will be ready when Z retires. Larkin feels like a combo off Datsyuk and Zetterberg in the making.

Detroit is not a Giroux away from cup contention. We are sure as hell not trading our best young player for him.

Now if Philly wants to talk.about trading some defense prospects for forward prospect that might make some sense.

Hagg is the only one most Flyer fans are willing to move. We need the others to actually fix our own defense.

Only on HF do you see fans who would rather keep their guy because he is from the area and MIGHT be a #1 C someday if everything goes right, instead of a guaranteed elite #1 C.

Don't be silly. There are MANY players like Wings would trade Larkin for.

Matthews, Eichel, McDavid, Doughty, Karlsson, Benn, Seguin, Tavares, etc etc. Without even batting an eye really.

Not enough value from Detroit but as others have said, this isn't the type of move they should be making.

It would be outside of the norm for the Red Wings, but they could really benefit by doing a complete rebuild and building around Larkin. Teams like Tampa, Florida, Buffalo, and Toronto have some elite talent either at the NHL level or in their prospect pool, and they'll all be better than Detroit for the forseeable future if things stay the way they are. Put everyone on the table but Larkin, Mantha, AA, ect.

What's added to a deal built around Larkin and Sanheim?

We're just essentially robbing Peter to pay Paul in this scenario.

Our biggest need is defense, by far. That said, we don't likely have a replacement for Larkin if we deal him either.

We can't really afford to trade Larkin to remedy our situation on the back end. Best thing we could offer you guys would be a young winger with potential like Mantha and draft picks (1st rounder or two?). Or maybe Svechnikov, who we really aren't sure if he ends up as a center or winger, but is a really nice prospect nonetheless IMO.

If young winger propsect + high draft pick(s) doesn't do it for you guys for Sanheim that is understandable, but it's probably the only thing that makes sense for us. We just can't afford to give up Larkin, even with how bad we need help at defense.

2009-2010 until his retirement were wasted seasons

Roster spots were given to old trashy depth players like Bertuzzi, Cleary, etc. on forward and White, Commodore, Salei, etc. on defense

They went into a season with almost $5M in cap space in one of those years

I guess it is subjective but I don't really consider that aggressive roster building when you still possess 3 top end players who are capable of doing damage in the playoffs

Would you trade Matthews for Giroux right now?

In the PHI/TOr thread yesterday, there were people saying they wouldnt trade nylander for him, so im gonna go with no.

I get where they are coming from though. Just like i wouldnt trade Provorov for a Keith kinda thing.

Dude just give us Giroux. frigg off no take backs. Now we can bump zetty to 2nd C and we solid as frig down the middle. or Throw Zetty on Girouxs side and watch em dominate the east. No trade backs!
