Leafs have currently lost 4 straight and the last time they lost 6 straight they fired their coach.

A loss to Philly would take that up to 5 straight losses.

The Flyers are the easiest of their next 4 opponents. As Boston and Carolina sit at the top of the Atlantic and Metro Divs.

Firing the coach is just a cop out at this point, Dubas has had more than enough time to construct a good roster with good coaching staff. Firing Keefe would just be further evidence of his incompetence. If somehow we did lose to Philly I am expecting a big roster move or GM change, Keefe does irritate me from time to time but I believe he's a good coach.

This game seems to be a tipping point.
Does the team show up and earn a win or do we see what we've seen the rest of the season?
Every game feels like a tipping point, except Shanny should be the one tipped at this point.

The thing is, the Leafs play just a notch below the level of their opponents, so they will challenge all of those teams. The sign of a coach who can't influence a result.

Consider this as well, I assume Samsonov plays tomorrow. That means Kallgren will play against either the Bruins or Canes. Better win tomorrow or a coach is being fired, deservedly or not.

Last year the Leaf were #2nd overall in Goals for with a rate of 3.8 GF/g and this year they sit #27th overall with a 2.7 GF/g.

This years teams scores at -1 goals for per game on average.

With each passing year the depth gets weaker and weaker.
Last year they were 2nd. But with each passing year they get weaker?

But i will agree they have too many guys that dont do anything overally well

This is a bit disingenuous, for how bad the depth is

Matthews isn’t gonna stay a 25 goal scorer
Marner should also increase from a 16 goals
Rielly will score a few goals
Bunting should touch 20-25, not the 15
Kerfoot should be around 10-15, not the 8

If all of the guys are hitting even their career average goal scoring then currently they would have;

AM has 6-8
MM has 3-4
MR has 1
Bunting has 2-3
Kerfoot has 2-3

At the lowest that makes it 32 in 10, a 3.2 GF/g which is tied for 14th

But I do agree the depth as a whole is not as good as it used to be

Yup. The true cost of spending 50% of the cap on 4 forwards

holl must’ve found something on the franchise that could take it down

Dude doesn’t get taken out no matter what, even when Liljegren seems ready and this is probably one of the best games to put him in
It's getting truly ridiculous now. So Holl has been promoted to the 1st pairing for all the great work he's done? I don't think Rielly and Mete is a first anything considering Rielly is top 5 in total goals against allowed in the league (16).

Liljegren is eligible to come back, yes?
Not till November 5.

The forward group is almost right, the defense is an abomination. What I would like to see for Saturday vs Boston.

Bunting-Matthews-Nylander
Robertson-Tavares-Marner
Kerfoot-Holmberg-Jarnkrok
Engvall/Steeves-Kampf-Anderson
Malgin/NAK/ZAR

Rielly-Liljegren
Sandin-Brodie
Giordano-Holl

Samsonov
Kallgren
Yeah that looks about right. How that haven't split up Matthews and Marner is telling.

This version of our defence is the best it can get with current personnel. It’s obviously a risk, but pairing Rielly and Liljegren would allow Sandin to shelter with Brodie, and hiding Holl on the third pair will hopefully mitigate his awfulness alongside steady Giordano. Of course this would require Keefe cutting Holl’s minutes which he seems to be allergic to doing.

Yeah Liljegren and Sandin will likely still struggle with top 4 minutes but at least they’ve got potential and could be learning and improving. Holl is what he is, terrible.

This is true but I think of how this team has started the year, knowing the Dubas was not extended and possibly Keefe's job was in jeopardy.

After Kyle gave the stars the huge contracts, continued to publicly support them despite every playoff series loss and Keefe never holding them accountable (for more than a shift anyway), I'd have hoped the players would come out flying (or at least clearly trying) this year to make their coach/GM look good. Instead it's the opposite.

I don't think it's as much as Keefe losing the room as the roster looks around in the locker room and has very little confidence this year's group is an improvement over last year. I wouldn't go so far as saying their play so far has been a cry for help, but it's sure looking that way.

Last year the Leafs got career goal years from Mattews 60 , Marner 35, and Nylander 34, so by getting weaker I mean the supporting cast around the core 4.

Just look at the bottom 6 this year and you nailed it. :)

Holl on the 1st pairing is a fireable offence, I am not even remotely joking.
Not much in the way of options there unfortunately with Brodie on his strong side. Holl won't necessarily be top two in minutes played either.
