Flyers fire John Tortorella, name Brad Shaw interim head coach

  • We sincerely apologize for the extended downtime. Our hosting provider, XenForo Cloud, encountered a major issue with their backup system, which unfortunately resulted in the loss of some critical data from the past year.

    What This Means for You:

    • If you created an account after March 2024, it no longer exists. You will need to sign up again to access the forum.
    • If you registered before March 2024 but changed your email, username, or password in the past year, those changes were lost. You’ll need to update your account details manually once you're logged in.
    • Threads and posts created within the last year have been restored.

Our team is working with Xenforo Cloud to recover data using backups, sitemaps, and other available resources. We know this is frustrating, and we deeply regret the impact on our community. We are taking steps with Xenforo Cloud to ensure this never happens again. This is work in progress. Thank you for your patience and support as we work through this.

I have made the odds on that and sent them to Vegas... Zero percent .. zero.

He is already wondering if he should extend in Vancouver because he is doubtful that team is made of winners ... The Flyers are facing a 5 year rebuild at this point. That will go to a caretaker or young coach looking for a chance.

Would you leave that rebuild to Briere and Jones? I wouldn't.
"He is doubtful the team is full of winners" what an absolutely stupid sentence. Tochett never once said that.

I never said he said that. If he thought it was a team he could win with he would have extended already. Quinn Hughes is the one and only reason he would stay. That's it. It might actually be enough if they can sell him on a plan to improve the rest of the roster.

Good. Hit the bricks, sir.

Love Torts as a guy, i think he's probably a really good dude. Great charities, i'd be surprised if he isn't instrumental in helping people become better men, but it was time. He did a bad job here

John Tortorella is a coach that needs the right team, a team that is ready to compete and trying to get over the hump.

It is similar to Darryl Sutter, he needs teams that are ready to compete, Darryl went to the Kings and wins there.

He doesn't just like them, he as a foundation that works with shelters to rescue abandoned and mis-treated dogs.

As a person, he’s done amazing work involving charities. Didn’t he used to call the one kid who was handicapped daily while he was coaching the Rangers?

I can't remember who said it but they made a comment like "I loved playing for him because you always knew where you stood". I can appreciate that level of directness (which again, comes out in his post games too).
Numerous young Flyers players have been quoted recently saying they got benched with no explanation by Torts. Cam York was the latest victim. No players knew where they stood and he got numerous players in his doghouse of randomness run out of town. So great they just dumped two more people who Torts publicly devalued (Morgan Frost and Joel Farabee) right before firing him anyway.

That's what I'm going to say if I ever have a life threatening surgery in the future.

"Get out you old dinosaur with 30 years of experience, I need the new guy to perform this surgery!"
The old dudes have seen so many people die on the table that they have become indifferent and are thinking more about retirement and the young girlfriend, but you do you lol.
