In somewhat unusual circumstances an unfamiliar face walks up onto stage...

Hannu Laine...

"I have done this job for 24 lonnnnnng years. To be honest until the 2018 draft I had the easiest job in the hockey world. EIGHTEEN drafts and the myriad of front offices - most of whom probably did not know I even existed - only picked SIX players out of Finland. And only 2/6 in the top 100. I mainly spent my days in the sauna and when whoever the GM at the time was - I generally did not know, it was just the only +1 calls I ever got - called just made up indecipherable Finnish sounding names and said that this crop was not the strongest out of Finland anyway...

but in 2018 Marc Bergevin found out that Finland had produced more Worlds Strongest Men than any other nation that played hockey... per capita... and from then on he became obsessed with finding hockey's Jouko Ahola... I played along and told him that Kotkaniemi benched 600lbs... that Jesse Ylonen had the Finnish u-18 record for the Atlas Stones... and that Slafkovsky... well... that Slafkovsky weighed 230lbs...

it was just nice to be listened too for once.

Anyway, I am up here as the front office is trying to leak fake rumours to the press about Matvei Michkov being responsible for setting fire to the Olympic Stadium in Montreal and Davd Reinbacher personally putting it out...

so I am naturally, now Bergevin is gone, not in that meeting, so the pick is mine all mine!

And we are proud to select... Jesse Pulkkinen from JYP. Just such a shame Marc is not our GM anymore, I see him out there at the L.A. Kings table literally salivating at a guy being 6'6 and 220lbs... yeh, he has his tape-measure out... he seems like he is indicating he is going to run up on stage and measure Pulkinnens biceps... Rob Blake seems to be calling for security... anyway... welcome to Montreal Jesse!"

@pit you are up next.

Pat Verbeek: Thanks Lou, I gotta agree that Fibigr pick was a good one. Scott thinks it was a reach but what does he know? Anyway, watch this. My man Rob is about to knock it out of the park I bet. Catch you later Old Man Death Farts.

SCOTTAY! Yo Scott! Where's Robbie?

Scott Niedermayer: Uh, over there.

PV: What, is he trying to work a trade with the Sens? He knows they got rid of Dorion and it's harder to work them over, right? Or is he teasing them for having to give up a first because we tried to trade with Vegas for Dadonov.

SN: No, he works for them now.

PV: Whaddaya mean?

SN: The Senators hired him to be their Director of Playe-

PV: THE ****? ARE YOU *******' ME? HE SWITCHED TEAMS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE DRAFT? **** THAT GUY!

SN: Uh, Pat? Come back here. Maybe don't make a pick while pis-

PV: OKAY, LISTEN UP EVERYBODY. YEAH, EVEN YOU TURNCOAT! SO THIS WAS SUPPOSED TO BE DIMAIO'S PICK BUT LOOKS LIKE SOMEONE WOULD RATHER BE IN ***CRACK CANADA THAN SUNNY CALIFORNIA SO NOW I'M WINGING IT! REACH PICK #2!

SN: I could just make the pic-

PV: ME AGAINST THE WORLD! THE LITTLE BALL OF HATE BRINGING IT HOME! SPEAKING OF LITTLE, YOU ALL WON'T DRAFT THIS OFFENSIVE DYNAMO BECAUSE OF SIZE, WELL LOOK AT ME!

SN: A bit less yelling please?

PV: FINE!

With the 79th pick of the 2024 Entry Draft, Anaheim is pleased to select from Örebro, teeny tiny itsy bitsy teeny weeny Alexander Zetterberg.

No time for funny scenarios; let's all pretend I introduce the scene where Barry Trotz returns from the audio booth, covered in blood to the horror of everyone on stage, and announces the selection of forward Yegor Graf, from SKA 1946 of the MHL.

Graf is a bit of a wild card, but Mr. Trotz explains that they value his offensive upside and all-around skill set, and they look forward to working him into the Predator [COMPLETE ABSENCE OF SOUND EFFECTS] system.

Speaking of wild cards, it is our pleasure to turn the drafting over to @landsbergfan.
