"What the heck happened to my head?" said a disgruntled man. "It feels like I got ran over by a truck."

The man stood up and an outside observer could see the entirety of his 6'4" frame. Or for certain sports executives the ideal body size. The man was pretty good looking, perhaps he was in his mid 50s or if one decided to chop of one of his legs and count the rings like it was a tree trunk, he was 54.

He gathered himself. First he looked over him body to make sure everything was still functioning and in working condition. Everything seemed fine in his mind. He touched his chin and still felt a bit of a dent from the time he blocked a shot when he was playing professional hockey.

"Stupid neon Dion" he muttered to himself.

The man looked around but there was nothing. It was an empty room and a pretty big one at that. He was puzzled and started walking. The man wanted to find a way out. As his steps began to rack up he was worried. In his mind he should've seen something by now. It was a dubious feeling in his mind. With his long strides he should be covering a great distance just like the old days on the ice.

*Clatter clatter*

"What was that?" he shouted.

An irritating clatter echoed in the room. It was a familiar sound but the man couldn't quite put his finger on it. The noise was getting louder and the frequency picked up. Sometimes it could be described as rhythmic in nature.

"Wait a minute," the man blurted. "That sounds like a keyboard." He realized the all too familiar sound from the days where he struggled to learn how to use computers but all his younger teammates were all part of the internet boom back in the 2000s. "Sounds like my kids playing Fortnite," he said with a hint of sadness.

"ROB!" a voice shouted.

The man quickly turned around. Eventually he saw this dot getting bigger and bigger. It began to take shape and he realized it was a man running towards him.

"ROB! ROB! ROB IS THAT YOU?" the voice shouted.

"Who the heck? Wait a minute that sounds awfully Finnish," he said.

"It's me Jarmo!" the voice shouted.

Rob could see clearly now, the figure was indeed Jarmo Kekäläinen the General Manager of the Columbus Blue Jackets. He quickly walked towards Jarmo so their meeting could happen faster.

"Finally someone else is here," Jarmo blurted in his Finnish accent.

"Where the heck are we?" Rob asked.

"You think I know?" Jarmo sarcastically replied.

"You're the guy with the 200IQ draft selections Jarmo."

"I don't know Rob. The only thing I know is that my team and I were in Nashville getting ready for the draft. Then I was walking back to the hotel and I saw a kid about to get run over by a truck. So I ran towards them to push them out of the way."

Rob's jaw dropped. "Wait a minute? You too? The same exact thing happened to me!" he exclaimed.

"How?" Jarmo questioned. "This makes no sense. How is that physically possible? Every other team booked out that Hilton Nashville hotel."

Rob stood there next to a befuddled Jarmo. Then it dawned on him.

"This reminds me of that anime stuff my boys like to watch."

"Anime?" Jarmo said in a questioning tone.

"Yeah anime," Rob began to explain. "Those Japanese cartoons that got super popular. I've seen my boys get into these shows where the main character gets hit by a truck, most of the time they try to save a kid. But then it turns out they didn't need to save the kid because the truck would've swerved out of the way in time so they sacrificed their life for nothing. Anyways the point is they get hit by this truck and then get transported to another world. I think it's called 'E sekky' or something like that."

Jarmo stood there with a disgruntled face. "What the hell are you talking about Rob?! You sound like a crazy man."

"I know it sounds crazy but maybe we got caught up in one of those things," Rob calmly replied.

"Adventurers let me ask you a favor," a voice echoed.

[If you've gotten this far, I commend you. The voice line applicable for this part is literally the beginning of the Youtube vid, couldn't find anything shorter]

The two men turned their heads and saw a king. He sat on a throne with a giant blond beard to match his curly blond hair.

"What the f---" Rob blurted.

"Welcome to this world or rather alternative universe. You two along with your thirty colleagues have been chosen." the king exclaimed.

"30 colleagues?" Jarmo questioned. "It's just the two of us!"

The king snapped his fingers.

Suddenly 30 other men of various shapes, sizes and age appeared out of nowhere. They were all in visible confusion. But were glad to see some familiar faces.

Rob and Jarmo were relieved to see their colleagues.

"Anyways now that all 32 of you are gathered in one place the time has come."

"Come for what?!" an irate Lou Lamarillo shouted.

"The annual tradition where you will all be controlled by 32 random internet posters on a hockey forum to conduct an NHL draft." the king answered.

"So what we normally do around this time of year?" interjected a snide Kyle Dubas.

"Yes and no," the king replied. "After you all were transported here after getting run over by a truck, you will not be completely in control of your actions. You will all be assigned on random internet poster. They will control the players you draft, the crazy antics you may or may not partake in, maybe some of you will be forced to put on clown outfits and maybe some of you will become blood sacrifices. That is not up to me but up to them. You hear that loud clacking noise? They're getting ready."

"How do we leave?" Rob asked

"After all 224 picks are finished you may leave." The king said with a grin. He snapped his fingers and all of a sudden the empty room was now the draft floor at the Bridgestone Arena.

Some of the GMs rejected their current situation. The not so new kid on the block but still new kid on the block Kyle Dubas attempted to run out of the arena. But every time he took an exit he found himself entering the building. He tried every exit, fire escape, window, and even jumped off the roof. However, he always found himself back sitting at the table with the Toronto Maple Leafs place card.

Rob was more accepting. He just wanted to get this over with but he would have to wait until his turn at pick 55 since he traded his 1st round pick in the 2023 draft.

Thursday June 28th, 2023(??) Bridgestone Arena (??)

*Los Angeles Kings draft table (??)*

"It's weird just being the only one here," Rob muttered. In this weird world, he was the only one at the draft table. He didn't have his crew, his scouts, his AGM, or the higher hockey OPs people.

All he had was this fancy computer in front of him. It was definitely custom built and it had three fancy curved monitors that came with it. All the GMs magically had a computer appear at their respective draft tables. Through this computer they would be able to communicate with their assigned random internet poster.

"Well this guy I'm talking to is weird," Rob said to himself. "Chinatown88? What kind of username is that? He doesn't even have any idea what's happening in the draft because he told me he checked out because the Kings don't pick until 55. Can't blame the guy."

*A link suddenly appeared in Rob's chat window*

"What the heck is this link?" Rob was confused as he clicked it.

The link opened up a Google Sheet. Rob dragged the chat to his left monitor and maximized the window on his main middle monitor.

"denominator 2023 draft ranking," Rob read aloud. "So my internet poster is using this?"

*More messages appeared in chat app*

"Goalie?" Rob questioned.

He sat there and thought about it. He began to type a response on the chat app to the random internet poster. But after several exchanges he realized that the internet poster thought the same way he did. The pipeline is pretty well stocked on forwards and defensemen. Their development is a completely different question. But a good goalie was needed in the farm system.

"All right that makes sense. We'll go with that lad."

*Rob leaned into the microphone that was next to him and pressed the push to talk button*

"With the 55th pick in the 2023 NHL Entry Draft? I think? The Los Angeles Kings are proud to select from the Brandon Wheat Kings of the Western Hockey League, Carson Bjarnason.

Los Angeles Kings selections
55) Carson Bjarnason, G, Brandon (WHL)

"One down and 5 to go? I think?" Rob thought to himself. "One step closer to freedom and escaping this place."

John Davidson: So who is our next pick?

Jarmo: Let me check my app.
JD: Your app?

This really great guy Chuck gave it to me. It says to draft Connor Bedard. But wasn't he already taken?

JD: Can you advance it to the 66th pick?
Jarmo:

Okay, I have like a bunch of options here and I can't decide.

Hrm, okay, well, the last few guys have had cool looking letters in that name, like the slash through the "o" and the melting "u" over the S. Do I go for another cool letter thing?

JD: Pick a good hockey player.

Jarmo: Wow, okay, the pressure. Um.

This guy here is BIG but he's, like, much younger than other players so that's impressive.

JD: So you're saying he's a late bloomer?

Jarmo: Am I? Maybe I am? Ok, yes, I am. This guy. In part because I'm still hungry and if I pick I can go eat.

With the 66th pick in the 2023 NHL Entry draft, the Columbus Blue Jackets are pleased to select from Malmö Redhawks...

Oh hey look, their o has the two little dots over it too. That's just what I was tal-

JD: PICK!

Jarmo: Okay okay, relax man. You need to de-stress with some essential oils or- okyespickingnow.
From Malmö Redhawks in the SHL, Anton Wahlberg.

Jarmo: It also just hit me that he has the same name as Marky Mark Wahlberg. Feel it feel it. You know JD?
