Let the record show I havent actually done any prep work for this, but I am not going to hold this up more. I am actually interested in finding out who I like more between Savoie, Nemec, and Jiricek. I feel like Seattle actually takes Nemec here if he's available.

When all else fails, let sexiness make the decision for you

I was going to do a silly write-up and bash the shit out of Chuck Fletcher, Brent Flahr, Bob Clarke, and so on and so forth, but then I realized I'm doing this draft for me and those f***s don't even deserve the typed words of my ire. I wanted Savoie, but the asshole Kraken sniped him from us. I also reaaaally don't want to draft a defenseman with a top 5 pick since I think high end forward talent is a better use of a pick in that range, and that high end forward talent just so happens to be a drastic need for this franchise. So f*** it, let's go off the board a bit and swing for the fences (depending on who you ask) and take the guy that is arguably even sexier than Savoie.

Gary the Stooge: The Detroit Red Wings are now on the clock.

The scene magically shifts to the Red Wings table. It slowly zooms in on Red Wings Assistant GM Shawn Horcoff.

Shawn: Well it's our turn now and those sea monsters just took Lambert. There goes the guy the entire scouting department and management wanted. *exasperated sigh* Okay let's see who's next on our list.

*Shawn proceeds to look at the well documented spread sheet the management and scouting department have concocted.*

Shawn: I sure do love the fact that we color coded this thing. It makes the decision process so much easier. Wait a minute... Why the hell do we have tiers?? Wait a gosh darn minute. All the players next on our list are tied???? By the hockey gods how are we supposed to make a selection?

*Shawn's exasperation seems to have spread to the rest of the draft table.*

*Suddenly Centre Bell's loudspeakers blast "Stuck in the Middle with You" by Stealers Wheel

*Clowns to the left of me, jokers to the right*

*Stevie Y makes his entrance*

Yzerman-Red-Wings-Draft-scaled-1200x793.jpg

Stevie Y: All right lads. Calm yourselves. We got this in the bag. Sure this isn't the alternate timeline where we have Rookie of the Year candidate Trevor Zegras. But we still got Rookie of the Year candidate Moritz Seider. Although my alternate timeline pick of Alexander Holtz doesn't look too good. BUT, this timeline pick of Lucas Raymond looks pretty good.

Shawn: Boss I do enjoy a good monologue but we're on the clock here.

Stevie Y: Shawn five letters. R-E-L-A-X. You didn't even get the curtain around our draft table set up?

Shawn: Curtain?

Stevie Y: Yeah you dummy the one that says Meijer on both sides. We gotta shoutout our sponsor Shawn. We need the money Shawn. #AD

Shawn: I got them to put it on that fancy giant board when we go up to make our pick.

Stevie Y: DAMN IT SHAWN!! THEY PAID FOR BOTH! YOU GOTTA GIVE THEM BOTH! WE NEED MORE THAN PIZZA MONEY!

*Shawn retracts into his chair feeling a bit sad*

Shawn's inner thoughts: I thought I was doing a good job too.

Stevie Y: All right boys let's get on up to the stage. I got our pick. Don't worry about discussing it. Trust me, the fans will totally be pleased.

*Stevie Y and his posse make their way up to the stage.

tumblr_pq8528ZS6y1r1aj1mo1_500.gifv

Stevie Y: With the 8th selection in the 2022 NHL Entry Draft, the Detroit Red Wings are proud to select from JYP of Liiga, Joakim Kemell.

*Stevie Y and his cohorts slowly walk off the stage, Shawn begins his inner monologue.

Shawn: Absolute disaster. A goal scoring winger???? The fans and those lads on Red Wings HFBoards are not gonna be pleased with this. It's like he has no idea what he's doing and just wants to have fun. And we have 9 more picks? Why did I take this job?

Detroit Red Wings Selections
8) Joakim Kemell, RW, JYP (Liiga)

This was a tough call. After years of turmoil the original owner Gerald Duckworth has regained control of the team and has assumed the role of GM. Despite opposition from Head Coach Gordon Bombay, the Anaheim Mighty Ducks select Adam Banks Conor Geekie, C, Winnipeg Ice (WHL).

Lou L: Ahh, time for the first pick of the day.

Lou L: Ahh, with that out of the way, time to turn to the task at hand. Which young child shall I select first for my ritual blood draining? The bath that keeps me alive and also others oblivious to the fact that I am a dinosaur masquerading in humanskin.

For this purpose I want a player who does not fit my scheme at all - useless to the style of hockey we play here in New Jersey Toronto New York. I could make a choice to devastate the large appendage picking after me, but I wouldn't want to draw more attention to myself than needed.

Russians won't be missed if I sacrifice one, but they may also be more difficult to lay my hands on, what with this war and all. I shall then take a Russian already based in North America. The best of both worlds - accessible and fungible. I will make this selection before my slack-jawed lackeys arrive to campaign for someone else.

With the 13th pick of the NHL Entry Draft, the Islanders are pleased to select from the Saginaw Spirit, Pavel Mintyukov.

@BigToe
I don't know-ah who you're going to pick, but I hope his last name rhymes with Toastbund.
