You know how many goalies don’t establish themselves til their late 20s?I know goaltending is at a premium in the NHL today, but I don't know why teams decide to give a 5 year deal to a guy who performed like a starter for the first time in his NHL career at age 28. Especially when he has another year under contract, so it's not like a "sign him now or you lose him" situation.

The Flyers will pay a premium on players who want to be here. They don’t have any other plays to make.I know goaltending is at a premium in the NHL today, but I don't know why teams decide to give a 5 year deal to a guy who performed like a starter for the first time in his NHL career at age 28.
