I want fast skilled players. That’s why I want Bleyl. His skating and skill is exactly what they need. There are going to be some nice options at 23 I think.
Morozov has a man's game and he's maybe the youngest player in the draft. Wasn't a super high end prospect because folks thought his offense wasn't there but he had an eye opening freshman season offensively. Bleyl could totally be good too but I don't trust the Q for gauging defense and particularly smaller offensive types.

Yeah, the Q sucks for undersized, offensive D. Guess nobody told 5'11" Ray Bourque.

Was 5’11 undersized back then. I mean he wasn’t big but he definitely wasn’t a mark like Grezlyck, Krug and others. I felt Sweeney was more undersized for sure. Glen Wesley too I think.

He had a man sized butt for sure.

Ray was always undersized compared to other defenseman of his era. Shorter than Paul Coffey, Brian Leetch, Scott Stevens, and Chris Chelios, to name a few from that time.

Good job, 46 years ago when 6 foot was about the average for NHL players. Bourque was also 220 lbs of pure rock.

Being an inch short of league average isn't really undersized. Not sure what Bourque's weight was coming into the draft, but I'm pretty sure Ray wasn't 164 pounds then. And I'm pretty darn sure Bleyl will never play at 220

Bleyl is listed at 6 foot. The average league height for NHL players is 6'1", although it varies by team. You were saying?

Not the youngest player in the draft, but he was the youngest player in college hockey in the first semester. Hemming is about 10 days younger. Lawrence is the same birthdate as Morozov.

Bourque played at 220 in an era the average weight was 194 (circa 1990), Bleyl is 164 in an era the average weight is 201
Okay, first it was because Bleyl played in the Q (same as Ray Bourque), then it was he's undersized (same as Ray Bourque), and now it's his weight. At what point are these goalposts resembling a pretzel?

And if you want to say "it was a different time," yeah, it was! I agree completely. The modern defenseman doesn't need to be 220 pounds. Matthew Schaefer is 185 pounds at 6'2". A full 2 inches taller, 15 pounds heavier than Bleyl! There, now you will need to readjust your goalposts again.

Ray was drafted at 197 pounds. 1979 NHL Entry Draft -- Ray Bourque
Bleyl is 18, 170 pounds. And a heck of a lot faster than Ray ever was. If you are saying he's too small, played in the wrong league, etc. then you are ignoring the facts about both the past and the present.

Is this a bit?

I don't think Bourque weighted that much as a rookie. They may have added 15 pounds in the translation from French to English.

That said, I'm less concerned with Bleyl's speed or size than with whether or not he can play.

Pastrnak was 6'0, 168 at the combine in his draft year. This is how you get late first round gems. I would say McAvoy as well. Like. if Bleyl were 6'2, 190 right now.. He'd probably be a consensus top-10-15 pick? No?

I think if he was 6’2 190 he wouldn’t skate like he does,

1” is fairly nominal. Steven’s is the only one I didn’t check and the only one I recall playing night or tougher then bourque did from memory alone.

Steven’s is 6’2 significantly bigger than the rest of the group. I felt he played that way too.
