i think if they are set on g being a winger, they should try Patrick as the center. It would give g and v a player that can actually shoot and would give Patrick 2 elite linemates to learn the ropes. I think the offensive potential of Patrick is greater than coots though that line has looked great so far. I still think g should be a center though.

If Lindblom isn’t on the team our foward situation gets worse.

Meltzer is going hard saying he thinks he will be sent down.

I'd say it's baffling how he could come off his best game of a pre-season where he was still respectable, then get scratched, then get sent down. Baffling how Weise or Filppula (both will be top 9 -- is there now no end in sight to Flip on PP1?) or Lehtera have looked to them better and more deserving. But yet I'm not that baffled.

At this point, I have given up trying to figure out what makes sense or what I think is best. Hak is...well...a hack.

If the idea is to pump up trade value for guys, it isn't working.

This all being said, if Hakstok decides to continue this grotesque Giroux-LW experiment, this is probably our best lineup:

Line 1: Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Line 2: Weal - Patrick - Simmonds
Line 3: Lindblom - Filppula - Konecny
Line 4: Raffl - Laughton - Weise

Lehtera, Read/Leier (odd-man out waived)

Without Lindblom:

Line 1: Giroux - Couturier - Voracek
Line 2: Weal - Patrick - Simmonds
Line 3: Raffl - Filppula - Konecny
Line 4: Weise - Laughton - Lehtera

Read, Leier

Can anyone honestly look at these lines and tell me they look better than with Giroux down the middle? Our bottom 6 lines are going to struggle against lines like the Bergeron one.

they definitely don't look better. they will struggle scoring goals for sure. and scoring was a big problem last year 5v5 and i don't see lines 2-4 there scoring much.

putting Giroux on LW not only depletes the offense, it puts the team's top 3 players all on one line. it's incredibly stupid. which is why i'm not surprised that Hak has done it.

Are the doubters from last season completely on board with me now that Hakstol is a f***ing joke?

Hate to go all deadhead, but when Sanheim and Lindblom get sent down, that's on Hextall. Whatever Hakstol drools into his ear about his favorite little shitty veterans, it's on Hextall.

100% correct.

Cant wait to see Matt "No Event" Read on the 4th line.

That’s the least of their problems. Filppula being in the top 9 & on the top PP unit is the most likely egregious usage they could do. MacDonald just being in the lineup ranks up there as well.

Yup. Once again coaching will do more harm than good.

Hextall is just as culpible.

No one could have guessed that Flip would be placed into Schenn's role on the PP.

Everyone but Hak could have guessed that it would fail.

It's kinda funny how polar opposite Flippula and Schenn are. Schenn was only useful from slot to goal line, were Flippula provides much needed zone entry ability but is useless once we get in their zone

I can't wait for Flip to have less than 10 PP goals in that position. I'm betting he gets 5 in that position all season. We clearly have better left handed shooters than him.

Just want another lecture from Curf telling me how stupid I am for retaining skepticism about Hextall's platitudes about youngsters being able to earn jobs on merit.

Still think my skepticism is wrong just because Konecny made it, Curf?

If Hakstol doesn't put Lindblom on PP1 in game 1, he should be fired. I don't care if the GM has put him on the roster of a different team in another league. A veteran NHL coach would figure out a way around that.

I swear, he's going to go full stupid on this shit. Like, he's intentionally trying to make things difficult for the team. Lindblom is better in EVERY WAY for that position. Size, strength, shot and awareness.

I said that too. If Hextall goes out of his way to send down performing rooks over mediocre to bad vets, this is on him. 100% on him, if the team comes out and can't score and that bottom 6 gets corsi'd to death.

Then he can look into a mirror and see that the same shitty players don't work.

I suggested it over the summer because of how they used in as the 6th man on PP1 with goalie pulled and their infatuation with him. But given his strengths and weaknesses it still didn't seem Plan A.

If Hak is in charge of powerplay design and personnel, what exactly is Knoblauch's role on this team?

Or it could be the bullshit thing of "I'm paying this guy a lot, so he has to be on the first PP unit." Seriously, Flip should be no where near the 1st PP unit.

You kind of missed the point that Lindblom can't play on PP1 for the Flyers if Hextall wants him on the Phantoms.
