Just shows you how much they don't think Sanheim is ready. In most of the fans eyes Sanheim is better than Brennan which is true when looking at raw talent and upside vs what you all ready have. The guys in the front office and coaches think Brennan is more reliable right now. Sanheim needs to work on his decision making and other small details in his game. He will probably be a call up midseason if he continues to grow in the AHL. Right now it seems Brennan has that edge..

Brennan is more reliable????????

I can't imagine any better way to prove that someone didn't watch any Phantoms games last year than to type that sentence and not immediately realize how foolish it is...

I think it's more a matter of rewarding Brennan for being a good soldier, including playing him in a couple exhibition games to see if he can catch someone's eye around the league.

Brennan is not playing ahead of Hagg and Morin, heck, he couldn't beat out Manning for God's sake! He had the same opportunity to win the 7th D-man job (which is all he can hope for on this team).

Brennan's pretty much just benefiting from the fact that he's old & has been playing in the minors forever now here. He's a massive rover in the AHL which is anything but reliable. If he actually played a reliable game he probably would have gotten more run in the NHL to this point than he actually has.

Sanheim is being sent a message. He made mistakes and then stopped playing his game.

Rotating Brennen in is simply to send Sanheim a message. TJ is a vet, he knows his game, knows his role.

Pretty much this. Sanheim will respond.

He's a AHL/NHL Tweener. Emergency d-man.

Of course he won't. He better not at least. All this promotion means is he is likely to be the first one called up in case of injury. For now.

Giroux deserves a chance to bounce back before it's decided that he's no longer a center. Or are we forgetting the context of last year? Let him play there until he proves he can't.

Giroux sucked last year ...no way around it. Now, I am not a fan of Couturier being the # 1 center. Hell to the no..... But if it works, then fine. But I think the move to the wing of Giroux is the annual Hextall/Hakstol camp message. They used to demote Brayden Schenn to the 5th line. With him gone, they are telling the Captain to not be too comfortable because you have young talent competition to play in the middle. Giroux is one of my favorite Flyers of all time but he is no longer guaranteed anything. Hopefully he responds like Couturier did last year after the trade.

I'm not saying that he was good last year, just that he deserves a chance to show that it was a fluke.

If he doesn't bounce back and still scores like he did last year, THEN you consider moving him to wing.

You do realize that 1 day in training camp doesn't equal a promotion, correct?

Not for the long term no but coaches are looking at things for reasons. Short term this is a wakeup call for Sanheim. Depends on how he responds will show if he makes the team or goes back to the AHL.

I feel pretty confident in saying it would take something pretty catastrophic for Brennan to get a call up this year. Hextall's been really stingy with call-up's to this point to where there's been times he didn't make a call-up at all when an injury occurred.

The only reason they would ever call him up is if one of our offense defenseman go down(Ghost) and they don't think Sanheim is ready. If Sanheim goes down and is one of the best players in the AHL either they let him bake and call him up only if an injury has occurred or a move is made to get him on the roster.

I'm not saying this means Brennan makes the roster. What i am saying is don't be surprised if the best case scenario doesn't happen and some of our young guys aren't ready. It would suck but Hextall doesn't want to ruin the confidence of a young player.

It would be bad to rush Sanheim early and destroy his confidence and ruin him as a player. He's a shy kid from a small town in Canada. He isn't as assertive as a guy like Provorov or TK. He still has little things in his game to work on(Positioning, decision making, pace, get better on his defensive reads) He might need more time. He still has time to push to show he's truly ready but i would like the kid to hit his max peak and not be rushed because some fans are so eager to get rid of the trash on the roster.

There's still Myers & Friedman who are offensive defensemen too. The odds of Brennan being better than all three of them is pretty slim.
