This worthy of its own thread.

The clock is now ticking.

Bruins GM Don Sweeney hasn’t ruled out a coaching change

“I’m not avoiding the question,†said general manager Don Sweeney. “I think it’s an obvious one. You have to look at every different thing.â€

The question is the one that regularly circulates around the NHL’s longest-tenured coach. The Bruins GM and others in the front office are trying to identify the team’s problems. Based on his answer, Sweeney and his colleagues have yet to eliminate firing Claude Julien from their list of solutions.

“I’ve given our coaches a lot of credit for how they’re preparing,†Sweeney said when asked if he was considering a coaching change. “We’ve had some slower starts in the last little while. But we’ve been all in together, communicating and seeing where we’re at realistically. Claude’s been receptive to putting younger players in roles that aren’t always comfortable at times. We’re continuing to work at it. I have to look at everything. Ownership would look at me and realize, ‘Well, has Sweeney done enough in the course of his time here?’ We’re sort of in the same place weâ€ve been, battling. But I think a lot of teams are in that.â€

Sweeney has to consider all options , it's part of the job.

Doesn't mean he will fire Julien. ;)

Don't get your hopes up...

It's time. Unless you can trade some guys with NTC to shake up the team the coach needs to go. We will see how bad they want him around with their effort on this road trip. We will also see of Claude actually coaches to win now by actively putting lines together with high offensive upside / high probability to give up chances.

2.5 years of losing and he finally admits it.

It has been around 50 years since the Bs didnt make the playoffs for 3 years in a row, looks like that streak may come to an end.

Change for the sake of change I think will lead to a carousel of coaches in Bostons future.

Exactly. You get dead cat bounce. Maybe.
There were 6 coaches in the 10 years preceeding him and I believe another 6 coaches in the 10 years before that.
12 coaches in 20 years. Harry loved changing coaches and never won a ****ing thing. His favorite word in describing his roster - ' adequate '.

Harry had 18 coaches in 30 years including himself.

Just the thing I want to live through again.

A loss to Florida, who played yesterday and are without Huberdeau, Barkov, and Bjugstad, does not look like it will end well for the Bruins.

Who want to go back to that? That was painful: Keenan, Ftorek, Sullivan, Burns, Dave Lewis. And none of it mattered in the end.

The B's are heading for their 3rd consecutive playoff miss and people are acting as if firing Julien will irreparably damage the franchise. No guarantees that the next coach will be the answer, but if things continue as they are, it's obvious that CJ is no longer the answer and management cannot stand still and do nothing. People forget that 3 years ago when the B's missed the playoffs we had a team that was supposed to compete for the Eastern Conference title and last year we had an epic late season collapse, so everything cannot be blamed on the roster.

If you've gotta dump him, do it NOW, while the Habs are actually good. Last year at this time, they'd have dumped Therrien faster than gravy drips off of poutine. I still think he's a good coach, and in a new environment, he could be dangerous. I'd just prefer that environment be somewhere out west.

I'm not convinced that dumping him will solve anything. But I'm slowly becoming convinced that keeping him isn't as helpful as it could be. I'm looking for at LEAST 6/8 points (or 5/8 points with AMAZING effort in ALL games, even wins) on this road trip, which should be doable if we're a playoff team. Not one of the four teams are playoff teams, and if Claude can't get the team rolling, it may be time for him to roll.

All that said, I think "restructuring" Cam's role would be less visible, but more constructive, than firing Clode. I still feel uneasy with a lot of his decisions.

Good. And who's to say that firing Julien will lead to a carousel of coaches?

Because it happens more often than not in professional sports?
The Penguins experience (2 coaches then success) is the exception, not the rule.

2.5 years losing ... same amount of time Sacco has been here. Fire him first.
Fire Claude and who do you replace him with? Cassidy? Sacco?
Or does Sweeney go behind the bench?

Well, the rumor has been that Cassidy is the safety net if they decide to give Claude the boot.
