Sutter and the team didn't want to give MT the captaincy in Calgary. Not sure why things would be different in Miami. ... at least not in the near future. Some of the things that Tkachuk has done on the ice has rubbed some of his teammates the wrong way. Captains don't do stuff like that. Captains also have to be respected by the refs.

I doubt many refs respect beta male Barkov...

Why do we have to rid Barkov of the C?

Sorry, just saw your other post on how YOU think Barkov lost the team in the playoffs and that the other players don't respect him. Well, I think you are full of shit. The other players on the team have a lot of respect for Barkov. As far as him being captain material, to me, he still has some things to work on.
Last year in the playoffs it came out that the Panthers players were out partying at a strip club before playing Tampa Bay. That shows that Barkov has no control over the locker room and the players don't respect him, or if Barkov was out partying too he sets a bad example for the other players. Either way Barkov is a terrible choise as a captain.

Ideally neither would be captains.
What about if they give Lundell the Landeskog treatment and make him the captain?

They have basically lost only Weegar who turns into a modern day Keith Yandle when the playoffs are around the corner and i don't doubt for a second that Maurice will make them play better 5 man D than Bruno did. They'll be fine.

Just wait till you see the ghost of Matthew Tkachuk come playoff time. Love the guy on the ice but boy...

I think losing Marchment is going to hurt more than people think, as well. That's a really good player to just go 'poof'.

So a perfect Huby replacement then. But with Weegar the thing wasn't that he was "meh" or a ghost but that he was HORRIBLE. And i'm not just talking about the big mistakes he made. Bet the Panthers would have done better with Marc Staal in his place lol.

Btw i'm pretty sure Tkachuk, Huberdeau and Weegar will all do better in the playoffs next year. They just need some more experience.

The talk that Huberdeau carried Bennett, I was actually curious and went back to watch his 28 goals from last season (+1 more goal in the playoffs) to see if Huberdeau truly was setting him up disproportionately. I was actually surprised as I counted maybe 3 or 4 instances where Huberdeau made a really strong play to initiate a Bennett goal (one of which was just giving him a free empt netter), other than those, I can’t say he did anything out of the ordinary. In other words, something I’d realistically expect from a solid level top-6 LW.

he scores by scoring in and around the goal mouth as well as using his speed and hiding his wrist shot to pick his spots off the rush. Looks like Maurice may try tkachuk with him to start. If so, I don’t see Bennett missing a beat, even if not, I still don’t expect a big drop off, if any

Him as the 2C still, one of the best centers in Barkov at 1C and Lundell hopefully taking a step forward and getting even better at 3C. Still have Verhaeghe, Sam Reinhart, and now Matthew Tkachuk. The other 3 top-9 players will most likely be Colin White, Rudolfs Balcers, and either Luostarinen or Cousins. That’s still a good offense. It’s not presidents trophy level, but no one should realistically think that, even last year I never would’ve expected that. With goaltending also remaining the same and most of the D, it’ll be the loss of a strong top-4 D with no real comparable to replace him. Which will hurt but I think we’ll still be fine

I’ve gone from thinking Florida was being overrated before the season last year (to which I was proven horribly wrong) to now thinking they may be a bit underrated going into this season. I don’t think their drop off will be near as steep as some are predicting. Their core is still really strong and they went 16-5-0 without Ekblad last year so I don’t think they’ll suffer that much with losing just Weegar on d. If Ekblad stays healthy they’ll be more than fine. I think they’ll still be a top team in the East.

Perhaps like Tampa, St.Louis and Washington, take a step back in the regular season and maybe a step forward in the playoffs

Florida is gonna be stuck as a middle of the pack team for the next little while, they mortgaged the future for a playoff run and didn't work out. No 1st round pick for what, 3 years ? It's gonna be tough to add to their team.

They probably still finish 1st in the Atlantic and lose in the playoffs to the Lightning again its not as if they aren't reallly good anymore still better than Toronto.

why would they dig a canyon to cover a deep hole
They are not even close, the players they lost as well as the picks are just disastrous. They will be above average offensively and pretty damn bad everywhere else. Take a loot at the blue line as well as the subtractions in their forward group, no 1st round pick til 2026

Doesn't Bob suck every 2nd year? Honestly don't know their bottom 4 defense enough to even comment. Not sure if that's because their nobodies or I just don't watch them enough.

Tough to maintain the comebacks and scoring 10% more than anyone else in every situation. That only has me calling for regression.

Florida is one injury away on that defence to really hurt them in the standings. It also doesn't help that there best Dman hasn't played a full season for 3 seasons now. So if Ekblad goes down and misses a stretch of games they could spiral down in the standings.

Other then that Florida should make the playoffs and be fine other wise but for us Habs fans we are hoping Florida sinks to the bottom 10 of the standings lol.

If anything they're taking a step forward after acquiring playoff beast Tkachuk, one of the most clutch playoff performers today.

Well if you win the Presidents trophy there is nowhere to go but down. That said, I think all of the top teams in the Atlantic, Florida, Tampa, Toronto and Boston got a bit worse this off season. Plus the bottom teams aside from Montreal look improved.

Florida is at a net loss in overall talent, by a decent margin and they hired a middle of the pack coach in Paul Maurice. I think they finish 3rd in the division, maybe fight for WC spot.

Bennett will fall off a cliff, no Marchment, etc.

How long is the Markus Nutivaara highlight video?

If you were making an extremely short highlight video, would you select an extremely long song for the sound track for added emphasis?
