Prospect Info: Florian Xhekaj

Has he surpassed Beck as a prospect?
Beck already has NHL skating ability. Florian still needs to add a measure of quickness to his. If that missing element is added, then the answer to your inquiry is yes. Nevertheless, both players should, at one point, make the team next year.

Agreed. But...

Beck has to start using that speed if he wants an impact in the NHL. In his stint with the big club, he didn't use his speed at all. Barely skated all out in any spurt. It showed that he wasn't ready because he still had trouble processing the speed of the NHL.

Frankly, I thought Beck was more effective in his short stint with Montreal than he has been since his return to Laval. Go back and watch the LA game and you can see Beck use his explosive speed to beat Doughty wide. Once Beck acclimates to the pace and intensity of the NHL game, he will be more than fine.

Florian might wind up being a better pro than Beck. I watched Friday's game and he covers more ice, very good skater. Laval playing Beck on wing on a line with Florian kind of opens up that possibility.

Pierre Dorion on BPM a couple of weeks ago had Florian as one of the 4 sure thing NHL's on Laval's roster along with Beck, Reinbacher and Dobes.

That move he pulled in front of the net to free up his stick for the tip in was awesome. He is going to be a habdful to deal with in a couple of years.

I see 3rd line potential in Florian Xhekaj, this guy can play hockey and he is a tough guy.

I really like his style, he have great shot and good offensive instinct.

One thing for sure, Habs have a lot of good prospects who can become good bottom 6 players for this team.

He's thinking too much. He's got to be more assertive and use his abilities aggressively.

It was a meaningless game and he knew it. But guess what? 20 year olds don't often come across as fully matured.
This 4th round pick who has scored 24 goals as a rookie and who provides the promise of size, toughness, skill and leadership and people are critical of how he celebrates an overtime goal?

Tough crowd.

It looks like it is either that or we trade him. Once Reinbacher graduates X will be like the 8th D. And if Mailloux ever graduates, he would be 9th.

Of course, Savard might not return, and maybe he can take his spot if he becomes a fearless shot blocker.
Savard is gone his contract is finished. Hopefully Matheson too via trade.

Hutson - Reinbacher
Guhle - Carrier
Xhekaj - Struble
Engstrom - Mailloux

Pretty interesting because I thought Pierre Dorion was thought of as being an excellent scout but not necessarily a good GM?

Tremendous scout.

It's why I'd like the Habs to get him, but that would be a sizeable drop from his GM salary, so he isn't taking that.

Maybe once that's done come in as a dude just below, or equal to Bobrov.
