Flint Firebirds 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

It looks like a great match up vs the rangers with both teams scoring 9 goals over four games in regulation plus the OT in three of those games.
I guess that Collins is unavailable; anyone else?

Collins and Konyen are out for the year. I assume Clattenburg should be good to go at some point.

Ouch. One OA for the playoffs is not ideal. Losing Collins was a big blow, I think.
Losing Collins hurts but numerous players have been outperforming Konyen all year. I’d rather see the kids get the 15-20 minutes a night he was eating up.

Solid effort. Solid game. Despite their best D being out for the season, they can still compete in this series and they did. They played well against a good team with a good coach. McCue. Settle down a little. Don’t taunt the fans unless they’re REALLY giving it to you. Mania. Settle down. Nice goal but you’re 2 for 150 on one man rushes and you once again got lost in space puck watching to let Swick of all people alone. Lombardi. Nice feed. Good stuff happens when you actually pass the puck. You’ll be a star soon. Remember you don’t have to do it alone. They need Nathan to keep being Nathan. I liked the effort across the board. I liked the physicality across the board. Guys I’ve been critical of like Kostov and Mania have been better for sure. I’d still put my money on Kitchener in 5 or 6 but these kids can prove me wrong and I won’t cry if they do. Good game tonight.

Mania getting the play of the night raised my eyebrow a little. It WAS nice and it was nice to finally see him finish that by NOT ringing it off the glass behind the net yet again. He has the lowest shot percentage on the team. I’d rather not be seeing him lead the rush multiple times a game. I thought Day was robbed of the Save of the Night though. That glove save on the lacrosse goal blew my mind.

Well. You knew Nathan was gonna come out and have a strong game after the last one but I wasn’t expecting his first playoff shutout. Everybody worked and played good. The forwards gotta keep forechecking and laying the body like they have been. I gotta say as hard as I’ve been on Mania not once tonight did he do something I complained about. He kept it simpler, distributed the puck better and was better at positioning and gap management. We were discussing most improved players a bit too. Colosimo, Fellinger, Aspinall and Kostov all got brought up. We miss anybody?

Day was great last night. Solid team game. Colosimo would have my vote from early this year until now. But everyone you named has taken some steps.

He’s the reason the conversation was started and everybody agreed. I thought he was a plug in 4th liner that would get a handful of games this year and 5 minutes a night next year just so they could sign his little brother. He looks light years ahead of where he was 50 games ago. I’m not saying he’s the next Quinton Byfield but he’s gonna contribute next year and might even be a solid OA two years from now.

The “3” amigos are alive and well. And you guys wonder why hardly anyone posts here besides you? I will say this, Flint wasn’t very good this year, in fact awful. However, they had their highest attendance since they joined the league.

2. - Charlie Murata, F
The Don Mills Flyers were a wagon during the season, and Murata was one of the biggest reasons why. He has excellent puck control, skates well and might be the smartest forward in this draft class. Even if he found himself in an odd-man situation, Murata often came out on top because he’d outthink his opponents with quick, tactical decision-making. That high hockey IQ is going to take him far – and I also think he’s quite impressive defensively, too.
