Flint Firebirds 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

He's been good and he's been green at times. Kinda worried since it seems like weeks since his last start, Parsons been getting all the net time as of late.

Last weekend was a 3/3 Fri/Sat/Sun with one of the games in Barrie, where Schaubel played hockey. Parsons got all 3 :(

Nice to see a bunch of Flint fans in OS , altho I suspect many are players families.
Spoke with a lady who came from Flint, first time in OS !
I trust her journey home was uneventful .

Both McCue and Kurowski scored for their new teams which was fitting .
McCue was succesful in getting under the skin of every Attack player .

Really didn’t expect them to get 3pts this weekend so anything against Kingston tonight would just be a bonus. They could really use Collins back. I wonder what’s up with him?

All I know is I think Connor Mallon has taken over as the worst official I've seen all year. Holy shit this dude sucks.

Bender sucks.

Hay is a little baby.

Looking at the standings I think it’s pretty far-fetched to believe they can close 9pts on Saginaw with 18 games remaining. Erie? Maybe but unlikely. That would put them as a 5 seed and facing Saginaw anyway who I don’t think they could beat in a 7 game series. Although Day always plays his best hockey in the playoffs and Oke has been pretty bad this year for whatever reason. 6 seed would have them facing Kitchener who they’ve beat but also got blown out by. 7 seed will have them facing Windsor. Probably a sweep. 8 seed, London. Sweep. It’s a first round exit regardless. I wish they would get the kids that are going to be here next year a little more icetime so they could develop. Having that 2008 hole where Zurawski used to be is going to hurt. Especially when he’s ripping it up in the next couple years.

I wonder if we’re looking at a no Collins, Thibodeau, McCue weekend. Won’t be easy if they’re missing their top 3 players.

Pretty big come from behind win missing Collins, McCue, Thibodeau and Konyen. They’ve still got a problem of playing down to their competition too much though. Even if they didn’t win, they should have had a better effort vs North Bay. Surprised to see Lombardi look like he actually knows how to throw. Glad to see some of the younger kids like Kostov, Reid, Fellinger playing much better lately and developing but they’re gonna need quite a few to step up their game next year.

Wonder if Reid still projects to go to Minnesota next year. Or if that gets pushed back, and he's here for a 2nd season.

Nice thing about these freshman year dates is that they are fluid. If you're not ready, just push it out for another year. I bet we see a few of these types push out their freshman year til 20. Its not going to get easier to crack NCAA lineups with this influx of OA's from the CHL taking spots. Unless you're a super star, you're going to have a hard time getting any kind of ice time before you're 20/21 years old.

Yeah. I definetly think Reid would benefit from another year here. I don’t think he’s ready for significant icetime at a Big10 school just yet. He has been looking better all the time though.

I know Sarnia isn’t currently playing like the 2015-16 London Knights but considering Flint was without McCue, Martin, Konyen, Collins and Frolov, that was a decent win. Congrats James Paul on your first OHL goal. Also congrats to Rylan Fellinger on a great play for Save Of The Night. He’s played really well lately.

Also…..Cole Zurawski has been on a tear for Owen Sound and followed up his OT winner with being 1st Star in the next game.

Goals in his last 5 games including tonight's blowout loss in London.
Named OHL rookie of the week last week . ?

What's up with McCue

Somehow they keep rolling. No Day, Collins, McCue, Clattenburg or Konyen. Over the last 20 or so Wang, Kostov, Fellinger, Podrekar, Reid have all been showing development. With the increased icetime over the last couple weeks Colosimo and Flugins have been better. Lombardi, Aspinall and Pitre who have all been streaky seem to be on an upswing too. I don’t know that it’ll do any good getting them past the first round but at least it looks like they’re developing lately.

Colosimo has looked solid lately, I'd continue to give him some minutes when others return. Reid as well taken some strides big time.

Good to see Lombardi, Aspinall, and Pitre step up and shoulder the load.

Hopefully some guys start coming back soon.

For the 3rd time this year. Jackson Parsons has done it 4 times but no other goalies have been named more than twice so far this year. He’s been fun to watch. Not sure how much more time he needs in the O but I’d sure like to watch him one more year.
