Flint Firebirds 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

Live look at Dave McParlans office.

For real. In addition to it being the wrong direction and a bad move anyway….Did nobody talk to McCue?!?? If I’m moving Zurawski I’d want some assurances that he’s not lookin to jump NCAA next yea at the least. Also I believe the OA deadline has passed. So he’s seriously gonna try and add but do nothing to upgrade on Konyen?

I mean, it’s only for the 6th overall pick and one of their best prospects ever. No biggie. What’s the difference between being 1 for 8 as a GM or 1 for 9?

Good fit for LK and the bro had a good experience in London. Up to Flint now to start a convo or hold on n hope.
At this point. I hope McPharlan holds on to hope, and McCue sits out the rest of the year. And McPharlan gets fired next week for the MASSIVE F Up.

MJ5 and Savard are just huge Mcpharlan supporters. Don’t mind them.
I was on the fence on him until this went down.

The flipping of OAs last year didn't make sense.

Made some okay moves in the off season, but lacked a 1C.

Don't see this as something that's forgivable and should cost him his job. You have to do your homework when making a deal to give up your 1st round pick.

Get it but hoping a kid sits all 2nd half cause the GM didn't do his due diligence seems harsh and unnecessary in the decision of axing him or not. ( if the trade is a mistake ownership should see tgat regardless of if flipped)
If ownership needs the kid to sit to make that call then I'd question them also. Do right by the players and it's a great start to a solid positive culture

I’m trolling of course but I agree with you 100% If McCue doesn’t commit, I 100% believe his job should be in question because that was a complete and utter drop of the ball.

I don’t believe he’s very competent and I have a feeling while he’s the gm, he’ll buy every year and make the same stupid mistakes. Rolf comes off lazy to me tho, he might not address a gm change

From an outsiders perspective, I think you would get fair value for McCue if he is not going to report providing McPharlan gets on the phones with all buyers to get the bidding going. But the problem is what you paid to acquire him was alot. I am a Kitchener fan and would love to see him on the roster but would only want to see one (maybe two) of our lesser '07s and some mid picks to acquire him.

The Peer deal last year made no sense. The Gavin Hayes deal was ok at best. While Collins has been good it was a big overpayment with Mania and Konyen as a whole. It’s completely obvious to EVERYone that Flint will finish between 4-6 this year and almost surely face London in round 2 then that’s the end of the story. Only a fool would spend assets to try and get to round 2 if they’re trying to build a successful franchise. Then there’s this.

Is it possible this was to accomodate a trade request from Zurawski? I am having trouble making any sense of it otherwise.
Possibly. Veteran players were getting way more ice than Cole and not producing. I could see him being upset. I’ve been frustrated all year that some of the youth wasn’t getting the ice time they deserved and being developed.

He went “all in” during the summer. Did you really think the moves he made at the deadline were gonna be any different?

I had hoped. Sell or if need be, stand pat even. No need to throw good money after bad. If you bought a lemon that you can barely keep running….realize it. Don’t go get rims and headers for it.
