Flint Firebirds 2024 - 25 Season Thread, Part I

It’s not an awful trade other than sitting in 6th place and not really needing the acquisition. Wonder if Zurawski asked out? That’s the only thing that really makes this trade makes sense to me.

McCue doesn’t help that much now, and the draft picks are just draft picks in the immediate future.

To have the 6th overall pick then flip it for this less than half a year in seems weird

Your correct. If they move MCCue in offseason (he be back as oa), then going rate is 2,3,5th. So, if works out, 2 -2nd, 3-3rds plus isnt bad for unproven 1st rounder.
He hasn’t been given a lot of icetime in Flint but when he has, Zurawski has been very good for a 16yo. I’d put his abilities, skillset and style at 16 right up there near Othmann.

I just find you guys directionless at times.

Lombardi, Martin, Frolov, Zurawski, Flugins, Reid, Kostov, Aspinall, Darcy, Fellinger is a solid U18 core that I think you should be building around.

Going back to the summer now you've spent up to four 2nds, four 3rds, three 5ths, 7th, 9th, Ewles, Zurawski on Mania, McCue, Thibedeau, Collins & Konyen. Not one of those guys is an elite player.

Now maybe you flip Thibedeau, Mania, McCue a year from now & get back a lot of picks, but then the year after you have a jumbled roster where those guys I listed are 19-20 & ready to win while everyone around them is 16-17.

It's like your GM wont commit to a certain season being the "go for it" one.

Mbuyi has been getting pretty regular top 6/top 9 minutes for awhile now. I would think Zurawski will be in that same mix. Offense has been at a premium this season so he should get an opportunity.

No. Flint has other deals to make for this to make sense, but Flint got excellent value.
Not sure I’d say EXCELLENT value but you’re right about needing it for another move. Either way, they’re spending just to make it to the second round and that’s dumb. McParlan blew it by spending 5 picks on Peer last year then acquiring Mania and Konyen this off-season.

100%. I will say that Thibodeau’s numbers would be much better with suitable linemates. He works hard in all 3 zones and skates his a$$ off despite his size. He’s the only forward that TRULY drives the play on a consistent basis for Flint.

McCue would be a prime NCAA target. Hopefully he likes his half season in Flint or he could find himself a spot on college team for 2025/26. It will cost more than the picks you received to get someone like Zurawski. Bit of an odd move if McCue takes off.

Don’t you start with that. Maybe Parekh would look good head manning pucks in a Buckeyes jersey next year too.

I think the Flint GM has been trying to go for it. Picks are not a concern having something like; 4-2, 10-3, and an excess of 4, 5, & 6 picks

2020 was the only year they really had a great deadline.

Lead by Barclay Branch.

Started the year by adding Anthony Popovich and Owen LaLonde. Team was in solid shape, and at the deadline added Tyler Tucker, Riley Piercey and Quinn Yule.

That team had kicked into a different gear that year before covid.

2022 they got Keppen back from the AHL and that was about it at the deadline if I remember correctly. They took Windsor to game 7 of the conference final that year.

The trade is posted on the OHL site. I also doubt he has a no trade clause so it probably did not require OHL registration approval. If anything, this is just McCue refusing to report.

Live look at Dave McParlans office.
