TSN: Flames sign O'Reilly to Offer Sheet

Flames are *****ing the Avalanche. Point blank. Noway around it, they are desperate and went hard. Either the Avs match and they laugh because of what we'll be paying him and what it could end up doing to us long term, or we potentially lose him for a late pick because they clearly believe they can make noise.

Only bright side is that pick does have potential to be amazing if things go our way, and the ROR contract does have potential to be laugh out loud bad. He'll be playing under more pressure than he has ever faced. All eyes will be on him after this, and after the payday he received expectations will be higher than they've been at any point in his hockey career.

Players have up and down years all the time, it's not impossible for him to have a down year next season and throw up 45 points. Making 6.5 mill.

If so, put (Avs fans only) up there so other people less informed on him don't skew it senselessly.

I've changed my mind...

Have you seen their next games? @Avs, Van, SJ, @ANA, @LA, @LA, DET, NSH, @DAL, @NSH, @CLB, STL, @CHI.

They also end the season on a 4 game road trip against MIN, NSH, STL, and CHI

I'll take the pick... (Obviously after we wait the entire 7 days and make the decision at the latest possible point in time.)

Joking, but I've literally never seen you post here and then all of the sudden you swarm in when this happens. I could care less just don't understand your reasoning

Fair enough. I have posted here on and off in the past. Just pretty disgusted with this franchise is all.

The reasoning is unproven. Its simply the Avs behavior over the last 10 years state they are not willing to invest in their team hence it is simpler to be on a "rebuild" path as a convenient message to the fans. Time will tell if I am right. Hope I am not.

Do people really think that Stastny is going to bounce back with us, hell does he even want to resign with us?

I'd rather take O'Reilly at 6.5 mil then Stastny who will likely still get 5 mil+ on his next contract if he hits free agency.

I don't think matching and having to deal with whatever happens next summer automatically means much for the other RFAs. Landeskog and Duchene will get paid no matter what.

It's not like the Stastny second contract had much impact on the current RFA situation here.

At risk of sounding like a parrot, what Avs do here depends on how they view O'Reilly and if he in some way can buy in long term or if they think he's just going to grab as much money as he can and go UFA as soon as he can.

Who cares... Talk to him about an extension this off-season, if we don't get the right answers. Trade him at the draft.

I think it's best that your organization signs O'Reilly and deals him next year at the deadline if he still wants out. As an Oiler fan, I'm pretty ticked because O'Reilly would have been PERFECT for what our needs are up front and I personally would have been willing to pay a lot more than a 1st and 3rd to land him. I would have done Yakupov for O'Reilly straight up TBH, but our GM doesn't have anywhere near the "brass" to do something like that...especially in division.

I'm as big of a draft fan as there is, but O'Reilly is only 22 so this is different. He is worth more than a 1st and a 3rd. If that 1st is a top 3 pick, that's different. But Hartley has the Flames playing great right now, and he hasn't even had an ACTUAL center in his top 6 to work with!

If they did match, do we really think ROR would give his all and work as hard as he did in the past? Or, would it be like Turris, Mules in Phoenix? He wouldn't be the first to grab a big contract and then sit back and phone it in.

Guys, don't forget that Hishon and maybe even Sgarbossa plus one of those other midgets in our system have better OFFENSIVE potential than ROR. I'm convinced that if Hishon gets healthy, he'll be a top 6 centre, his skill and vision is amazing.

Do we really wanna deal with the headache that is ROR/his agency/Brian O'Reilly 2 years from now when his contract is up? I sure as hell don't. His dad is complaining about $ atm. Next thing it might be ice time or some other issue. We don't need **** like this. Yeah it's a bad situation and Sherman and co messed up but the better option now is to take the pick, hope it turns out into something good (or at least better value than a 2 C at 6.5 M), and then get back at the Flames with Baertschi if need be.

And no way do I want Matt Duchene to earn less than ROR's 6.5 M if that ****** is with the team in 2014. Duchene deserves more than that.

I'm not sure he would but I can say this... There would be some serious stink in the air in that locker room knowing what he did and what he got, as well as what he did to the team in order to get it.

I dont see him phoning it in. In fact I think he will play his ass off to justify being paid the moola

Given what the Avs were asking for O'Reilly, they obviously still value him pretty highly as a player.

Basically, wouldn't be surprised what happens either way. But if they match, I'd put Stastny on the block immediately.

To match the contract and have O'Reilly call it in because of what happened is a risk. I would like to think he would be a professional, but you never know.

Don't see it. He's the ultimate hard worker on the ice. We need to be careful to differentiate demeanor off the ice and on it. A greedy ***** can be a player who plays the game with great heart.

I dont see Hishon playing in Denver like ever. I almost wrote this guy off entirely. How many years has this concussion set him back? We need to send a horse head to Mcnabb.

I personally think it'll affect Lando. He'll want the big bucks and won't settle after seeing ROR get his way and I wouldn't blame him. That's just my opinion tho.

Duchene on the other hand? I don't see how you couldn't think this affects him. Same draft, he's been the better player, took 3.5 mill to prove what he's worth and ROR holds out and gets a huge payday? If he plays good hockey for the next few years, you don't think he's coming after a huge payday?

ROR with 5m cap hit is crazy. Obviously if we match we don't even talk to Staz because we'll have enough cash tied up down the middle, hopefully ROR hits that beauty potential some believe he has or were screwed

As much as I love having RoR on the team and want him to stay...6.5 million next season is probably too much and the Avs won't match

I'm sure he would play hard for his teammates and coach. I doubt things ever gets smoothed over with him and management, but if he had to comeback I'm sure he would play his *** off.

Look at his join date ... almost 10 years ago. I have been around long, also, don't post much. But, yeah. This is postable. (postal? going postal?)
