The problem is, if they drop top 10 in 2025, we get Florida's pick.

So we want them to miss the playoffs, but stay 11th to 16th. That's not looking so good now. Damn Florida could mess up our pick again if they go on a run and Calgary finishes bottom 10.

I think if both teams are in the top 10, the 1st is in 2026 unprotected ? i dont get the schéma in page 1, the question should be does both the pick are top 10 in 2025, if so we just get the 2026 from the Flames wher ever they finish ?

the '26 pick likely won't come into play here.

To make it simple just assume the panthers are NOT a lottery team in 2 years. Once you do that then the Habs are getting the panthers pick if the flames pick is 1st-10th OA, or they get the Flames pick if it's 11th OA or later since the panthers pick is assumed to be in the teens or 20's.

someone needs to explain the conditions on calgary’s pick to me again
Basically, we get the better of the Panthers or Flames 1st in 2025 - unless the Flames are picking top 10. If the Flames are picking top 10, we get the Panthers pick.

That's the basics because it's the most likely scenario. There is some other scenario where if the Panthers do really badly, they don't transfer their 1st to Calgary in 2025, but rather in 2026. I don't remember the details of this scenario since I don't see it happening, I don't see Florida being bad in 2024-2025. But if it does happen AND the Flames are bottom 10, then the pick gets transfered to 2026 and there are more conditions. But if that scenario actually comes to be, I'll look at those details again.

so basically, I'm rooting for the Flames to finish 11th or at least as close to 11th worst as possible. So they need to be bad, but not too bad. About the same as this year, but slightly worse. As of now they seem like they'll be getting much worse with all the players leaving...

There's a lot that has to happen for us to get a good pick. If Calgary has both their own and Florida's pick in 2025 chances are higher we get Florida's pick.

The 1st OA protection that everyone is getting excited about ONLY happens if Florida finishes bottom 10 THIS year.

Any other result and Calgary has 2 picks in 2025; in which case we'd get the worst pick if Calgary is top 10 & Florida is not. We get the better pick if Calgary is 11+.
We're getting the 1st pick in 2024 and the 2nd overall in 2025 with CGY's first. 100% real, saw it in my soup the other night, and before you ask, yes I was hella drunk

Is there a scenario where we actually get a top 10 pick at all in any of these scenarios?
Both Florida and Calgary have to be bottom ten and I believe neither pick can be first overall.

If Florida is bottom ten in 2025, they keep their 1st rounder and it transfers to 2026 1st round pick, so we would be getting Calgary's first, UNLESS it's the 1st overall. Then they would keep it.

Maybe I'm wrong but that's how I read it lol

I'm over being hopeful for high draft picks.

Subbans, hutsons, Caufields, guhles
Kind of ironic considering our top of the draft record, I'd agree mid round seems optimal.
Jury's still out on our two most recent top5 picks but chucky and KK have been massive disappointments.
