4 players from the Calgary Flames want out and wont extend, Lindholm, Hanifin, Backlund and now Toffoli

That 1st we got in the Monahan deal taste better and better...

people may complain about having a thread for this since it backfired so badly this year with the panthers pick but this could be huge news for that pick in '25 so I thought it should have it's own thread as the next 2 years for the Flames could be great news for us if they suck but not too much as a 11th OA finish would be the best outcome.

The WIN! NOW Attitude hasn't Worked for Van-City either. Seems Montreal Building a team of Guys, that like to Go to Work is the New Norm. Martin St.Louis was supposed to be a temp Coach? Seems Players like to Play in Montreal again.. Sean Monahan!-Right!

There's a lot that has to happen for us to get a good pick. If Calgary has both their own and Florida's pick in 2025 chances are higher we get Florida's pick.

The 1st OA protection that everyone is getting excited about ONLY happens if Florida finishes bottom 10 THIS year.

Any other result and Calgary has 2 picks in 2025; in which case we'd get the worst pick if Calgary is top 10 & Florida is not. We get the better pick if Calgary is 11+.

for now it would be safe to assume the Flames will get the panthers pick in '25 as it's lottery protected but despite their struggles early on this season it now seems like a long shot that the panthers would be a lottery team in '25 but of course 2 seasons is a long time as a lot can happen.

So it would then be more simple, as it would come down to the Flames ending up picking in the top 10 or not. So if the Flames end up 11th OA in '25 then we would get their pick if the panthers don't fall apart by then. If the Flames suck too much then unless the panthers suck too we would just get the panthers pick so likely a late teens to 32.

When re-reading the conditions it said something like: if the Panthers have their 1st in 2025, it goes to Calgary.

Makes me wonder if we shouldn't trade a vet to Florida at the TDL 2025 for their 1st, to make sure it's either Calcagry just outside the top 10 in 2025 or Calgary 2026.

Yeah, it's way too early, but yes, it's highly likely that Calgary has Florida's 2025 1st.

We'll see how they deal with all these trade requests. Keep some players to trade at deadline? Trade for futures?

Florida's run was a bit of a fluke too. They got unreal, and likely unrepeatable high level goaltending from Lyon then Bobrovsky. We'll see what happens this year with them. They could experience a SCF set back.

If Florida makes the playoffs this upcoming year and then finishes with a lottery pick in 24-25 that also works right?

Florida sucking next year just makes things simpler that we will get Calgary's first in 2025, unless of course it's first overall.

Florida has traded their 24 and 25 picks already to Philly and Calgary, respectively. If their pick is a top 10 in 24, they keep it and both teams move down a year. Philly gets their 25 pick and Calgary the 26.

I assume that 11th overall pick wouldn't be ours though if it wins the lottery.

We don't even get the pick if Florida is good and Calgary is bad. We need to hope they both finish bottom 10.

I think if the flames pick is top 10 we get Floridas pick regardless

If both are out of the top 10 we get the better pick of the two
Florida has alot of upcoming UFAs next 2 yrs, basically their whole blueline aside of Ekblad, Up front, Reinhart, Duclair, Lomberg, Cousins, Stall.

You never know.

Ah, thanks for clarifying.

It's extremely unlikely Florida finishes bottom 10 in 2024.

So we really have to hope Calgary finishes out of the playoffs and as close to 11th last, but not bottom 10, in 2025. It may be hard for Calgary not to finish bottom 10 with all the players leaving.

Let's see if they are able to trade for good players or if they go full rebuild.

Good luck with Huberdeau, Kadri, and Weegar signed for the next decade...

Those players would help them at least be a bubble team short term Or get into the playoffs. But if they sell off other players, they should finish bottom 10.

I see them in 2025 as either bottom 10, a bubble team, or just getting into the playoffs, depending on the moves they make with all these vets that want out.
