HF Habs: Flames or Panthers 1st Round Pick 2025: Part II

Utah loses 4-2 to Seattle. Kakko scores the winning goal off a horrendous play by Sergachev. He has all the time in the world to do a hard shoot around the boards from the RW side; instead he shoots it at the net & hits the outside post.

Velmalka panicks & pushes the puck behind the net right to Kakko, who wraps it into an empty net. Lol

Tolvanen gets an empty net goal to seal it.

Huge loss for Utah. They actually drop to 11th, with Blues moving to 10th due to RWs.

We need Calgary to stay ahead of 10 teams. I guess it's good Seattle beat Anaheim, to keep Anaheim behind Calgary.

But Calgary is only 3 points ahead of Boston and Detroit who are tied for 10th last. Calgary has to do ok down the stretch to not fall into the top 10. We'll see what happens... At this point I'd take them making the playoffs and getting the 17th pick over the risk of them falling into the bottom 10 and we have to get Florida's pick again.

for fun, I asked ChatGPT 4.5 to project the final standing and teams that make the playoffs based on remaining schedule, current streaks and strength of opponents and here is the results:

🏒 Playoff Seeding (Based on Projected Standings)

Eastern Conference Playoff Teams:
1️⃣ Washington Capitals (M1)
2️⃣ Florida Panthers (A1)
3️⃣ Carolina Hurricanes (M2)
4️⃣ Toronto Maple Leafs (A2)
5️⃣ Tampa Bay Lightning (A3)
6️⃣ New Jersey Devils (M3)
7️⃣ New York Rangers (WC1)
8️⃣ Ottawa Senators (WC2)

Western Conference Playoff Teams:
1️⃣ Winnipeg Jets (C1)
2️⃣ Vegas Golden Knights (P1)
3️⃣ Dallas Stars (C2)
4️⃣ Edmonton Oilers (P2)
5️⃣ Colorado Avalanche (C3)
6️⃣ Los Angeles Kings (P3)
7️⃣ Calgary Flames (WC1)
8️⃣ Minnesota Wild (WC2)

8 pts is a big lead for Calgary to overcome to grab WC1 from Minnesota. I can see all those teams making it, though.

Going to come right down to the wire. Calgary has a rough schedule the remainder of the month. Still think it’s more than likely they slip into the top 10.

We need to start hoping FLA doesn’t win the division!

Now, do lottery numbers :D

Here is what i came up with after several tries and many error corrections. I don't know how something so powerful can also be so sloppy. Take home message...use at your own risk.

It’s really looking like there is a bottom 8 right now (SJ, Chicago, Buffalo, Nashville, Seattle, Pittsburgh, Philadelphia, and Anaheim). If that’s the case Calgary just has to finish ahead of 2 of the other 9 teams they are currently ahead of. That includes Detroit and the New Islanders who both have tough schedules to finish the season and who are both below .500 in their last 10 games. In Detroit’s final 16 games they don’t have a game against a team who has less points than they do right now.

It's a good thing Calagary have such a good goaltender. He can steal games. Could be the difference.

And we have 3 games left against Florida. So we can directly affect that. The year we had their 1st from the Chiarot deal, they ran the table against us. That was the difference between making the playoffs and making the finals...

Dvo really has some sweet mitts sometimes to make passing plays. I really thought he could do well on the wing.

If the lines are ever not going, may want to switch Dvo amd Newhook. See what Dvo can do with Laine amd Roy. Though everything is going well now. And I like Newhook's speed on his current line.

Good first.

Hockey is 60 minutes though.

They aren't going to be bottom 10. Wolf will see to that. Just have to hope they don't make the playoffs. And the Vancvouver's, Utah's, Seattle's St :Louis' are all shat.

The only team in that group that has another gear is Vancouver.

If they unlock the pettersson enigma, and hughes/demko are healthy, the prospects for this team increase by a huge margin.

Let it go man, I appreciate the reverse jinx approach but at this point it’s just not happening.

Expecting the worst is a good way to not get hurt. Seeing the world in a negative fashion for an extended period can take it’s toll though. Let’s keep it in the middle somewhere :DD

They are only 3 points from the top 10. I think you’re being overconfident if you believe there is no chance of them falling into the top 10.

Utah beat Vancouver tonight 3-1. That's a big loss for Vancouver. They could've put some space between them & the rest, instead the race for WC2 in West has heated up.

St. Louis annilated Anaheim 7-2, so they're now tied with Vancouver for WC2 with 73 points, but Canucks have a game in hand.

Calgary & Utah are now tied in points at 71, but Flames hold 2 games in hand over Utah & Vancouver and 3 games in hand on St. Louis.

Calgary is the only one of the 4 playing tomorrow. They are @ Toronto Monday.

All 4 teams play Tuesday.

Calgary holds 15th overall. They are 3 pts up on 10th place NYI with a game in hand.

Flames have been consistent all year long hovering around that 8/9 seed.

All the eastern teams are too volatile. They could be crap at any moment. Odds are we get our pick if CGY misses

I keep reading about how Logan Cooley is this amazing player & should've been the Habs pick at 1OA - no pts in last 7GP minus 6 on a team supposedly competing for a wildcard spot. He went cold post New Year last season as well….
All the kids do. He potted his 18th tonight
