17th, most likely, unless they miraculously get to the final 4 in the playoffs.

Montreal's pick, should they just miss the playoffs, could be as and as 16th.

How bad a draft would Montreal get with the 16th and 17th picks?

Certainly wouldn't excite many fans the way a top-10 pick and the 17th OA would, that's for sure, much less a top-5 pick + the 17th OA.

Winning the lottery with the 16th OA pick would only give Montreal the 6th OA pick, so even that wouldn't be as exciting to fans.

For me that's Jake O'Brien (he's going higher, so I'll exclude him)

So it would be Cootes + Ryabkin. Certainly would excite me.

But I don't foresee Montreal being the first team outside the wildcard picture. Ottawa and Boston are already ahead of them in that department.

Really the hope for Calgary's pick was always them looking too good to sell at the deadline and almost seeming like a playoff lock up until a plunge in the last couple months. I think they are at a perfect place right now. If they were doing any worse they might be inclined to sell and tank to get inside the top 10.

Canucks win so now they are 1 point up on the Flames but with one more game played. Pretty wild that they are 4 points away from being 11th last but with 6 teams between the two spots.

Canucks, Blues, and Utah all on pace to win and gain 2 points on the Flames, who lost tonight...

I don't know if that's good or not.

Damn, when I went to bed last night Vancouver was leading 2-0, and I assumed they would hold that to win it. Instead they gave up 5 straight goals to the Ducks & lost 5-2.

Calgary still one point back but with a game in hand now.

Meanwhile, Utah has won 3 consecutive games and have gone 6-3-1 to climb to within 2 points of WC2.

Utah have gotten both Durzi & Guenther back.

Blues have won 3 consecutive games, too and are now 3 pts back WC2.

Calgary is @ Florida on Saturday. Another tough one for them. Vancouver @ Seattle.

I laugh if we do too well to be in the top-10 and end up selecting Ryabkin as a consolation prize and he becomes a franchise C, killing it with Demidov for over 10 years!

It's not good.
Canucks lost but Ducks won. Habs won too...lol

Flames are just 3 points ahead of the Habs who have the 10 pick as of today.

But keep in mind there are 5 teams between Calgary and the Habs. The Flames aren't at pick 11.
It's kept in mind.

There are 5 teams but they're all just within 2 points of the Flames.
I think Utah, NYR and Ottawa have better teams than Calgary and should pass them.
Hopefully the Blues will start to sell significant players. Maybe Boston too.

And there are also the surging Ducks and the unpredictable Islanders that can realistically pass the Flames. They are just 2 points behind the Habs with 1 game in hand.
Flames will need to win some games that they're not expected to win.

They should.. as they have so far this season. I'm not particularly worried about the Flames dropping into the top 10 at this point.. it's a lot of teams and a fair amount of points to make up with so little time left in the season.
