With the comments of Giordano's agent talking about him going back to Calgary maybe there's something to it.

So how about:

to Calgary:
Giordano(50% retained)
4th round pick(via Flames)

to Seattle:
Zadorov
1st round pick(Flames)

Thoughts?

Treliving may do it but he shouldn’t trade a potential lottery pick. Maybe if it’s lottery protected

I mean I think he’s going to sign in Calgary in the off-season.

our blueline is fine though it’s not the thing we need to fix. We need secondary scoring. If we are giving up our first we need a McCann, Tanev or Gourde coming back.

Don't see the Flames giving up their first to populate an already crowded d-core. If anything they'll be looking for a PP specialist/point man, and Giordano's offensive game just isn't what it used to be. You can also typically get a PP specialist d-man for much less than a 1st.

Are you planning to flip Zadorov for a 2nd or something? Think the return is weak especially adding a pick from Seattle side. Zadorov isn't a need and will need to be retained as well in a move so this deal would eat up 2 retention spots. Think you can get a 1st and another pick or prospect with Gio at 50%.

Trading a first and admitting he made a bad signing in zadorov just isnt something Treliving is going to do for 20 games of a player who isnt going to make this team a whole lot better.

Signing a short term deal in the offseason to come back to Calgary seems much more likely and cost effective.

We weren't willing to give up a 1st to retain Gio at the ED. Not sure why we would to make him a deadline acquisition.

Donskoi or Johansson or maybe Appleton would probably be of more interest.

I've always thought that trade deadline deals really shouldn't involve players who are contributing to a playoff run going out in exchange for a rental. The Flames should keep Zadorov for their playoff run (and beyond) and try to re-sign him in the offseason. He's certainly younger than Gio and can play for a few more years yet.

The proposal was made under the impression that the Flames are "going for it" and are a playoff team.

McCann and Gourde aren't going anywhere, unless it's an overpayment which a first rounder alone wouldn't be, and Tanev's out for the season.

Well, if anyone's interested I wouldn't mind moving Zadorov right after the move.
Though, he's basically an expiring(even though he's an RFA) contract and needed to make the numbers work.

Overall I don't think adding the Flames 4th rounder(which we got for Pitlick) would be much of a deal breaker cause it should be in the 2nd half of the 4th round and I'm not sure how much you can expect a player selected at that point of the draft.

If Gio were to come back, he'd have to agree to not be a voice in the room because either than this last 3 game stretch we had, the seasons been fine and the leaders in the locker room have been leading by example, if Mark comes back and tries being the main voice/leader like he used to be, I'm not sure we'll make the playoffs... He was a good leader but never lead us past the 2nd round(and that year we faced Van in the first round)

Not going to claim being an expert on the Flames locker room but if that is the case, they are probably better off not getting Gio back. How do you control him not being vocal in the room if he comes back? Dude was a captain on the Flames for years and led by example. He has done nothing wrong and seems a little harsh to expect him to basically just STFU.

Any interest in Tanner Pearson? I think the Canucks are hoping that one of Aidan McDonough, Danila Klimovich, Dmitry Zlodeyev, or Linus Karlsson can replace him in the top-9 sooner or later.

Well if you are taking Zadorov to keep an let expire as a UFA then you don't retain 50%. If you are taking him as a cap dump and retaining you should be getting something along with him. And the 4th isn't much but it seems like just throwing a pick away. The pick should be on Calgary side for the retention.

That's too high of a price to pay to rent Giordano who is a #3-4 at this point. I think he's worth a 2nd+middling prospect
