I'd lIke to join in on shitting on the tender, but when you haven't scored a goal in 120 minutes, there's other things to fuss about.
Knight has allowed at least one stinker in every one of the last 3 games. The one last night was one of the worst goals I’ve ever seen. His salary is what will make him a casualty of this team. I still think he will be a great goalie one day and it will hurt if it’s not on this team, but we’re handcuffed with his salary. I do think some of the criticism has been unwarranted but still, he just hasn’t been up to the taskThere are much worse goalies in the league. Keep in mind that leaguewide sv% tanked this season.

That edge isn't there right now.
Ek was actually the offensively most dangerous player last night, rang the puck off the post twice with 2 excellent shotsThis team is so ekbad that it's not even funny anymore
I agree that after the Carolina game he was looking great. I don’t even blame him for Philly. We sucked that game. Pittsburgh he wasn’t good and Calgary I thought that third goal was awful. But he’s making 4.5 mil as a backup that’s why he’s getting flack. I love the kid and I think he will be a franchise goalie by 27. It takes time but it matters if Zito thinks we have that time.Meanwhile our 10M$ goalie:
(I know he is a starter, but he is 36 yo though. At some point of his career, he will decline finally and not bounce back).

Lots of excellent high-danger saves but SHOCKING amount of stinkers:

And this is Knight:

Obviously the team isn't playing well right now. Obviously, the Panthers need to prepare for life after Bobrovsky. And obviously, Spencer Knight has not shown that the Panthers should invest even more money in him and hand him the starter's job.
I think it's totally fair to examine the big looming decision on what to do about goaltending while being fully cognizant of the fact that the skaters were the problem in the last two games. If Knight was making half of what he is now, this wouldn't be an issue. But Knight is one of the highest paid backup goaltenders in the league, and right now his glove looks like a dishrag.
I think it's time to start looking at him as an asset and try to figure out exactly what that asset is worth. If he can theoretically return a top 4 D rental, that's a trade the team needs to look before the deadline.

Not at all. I think we have a legitimate 5 year window.I don't think he's gonna return a top 4 d. His value MIGHT be a 2nd, because he comes with a 4.5 M salary. He doesn't have much value at all right now, which is why I'm against moving him . Then to get a competent backup goalie, you're gonna pay a 3rd or 4th . So you're actually losing assets, instead of just keeping him.
I don't understand why we have to move him . We can keep him and Bob, plus Ek, Carter, and Benny next season.
You think we are cooked in 3 years?

I agree but we also need to use his cap for a playerThen keeping Knight makes sense.
Why? We will have 4 million in cap space at the deadline for Dman additions.I agree but we also need to use his cap for a player
How so? I heard the same but how does it come to that? Why? We will have 4 million in cap space at the deadline for Dman additions.

3.5 could improve our D or get us 2 bottom 6 guys who can put in some massive work for playoff runs. 3.5 isn’t a game breaker but it’s still usefulWho is so important that we need to use about 3.5 M for? As we can even see from the difference between last season, stable goaltending is important. Bob probably only has a couple good years left. The cap keeps going up every year and once Bob's deal is up in a year, we will have the best cap situation in the league. It's not like we need tons of cap.
Just like last year, we had more cap space at the deadline than we did at the beginning of the season.
