Whoever thought Gaudreau was a problem was just sour grapes over him leaving. Those same people would say he was a hero if he stayed.Flames have blown a ton of multigoal leads going back to last season/playoffs. Guess maybe the problem wasn't all Gaudreau
It's funny. Every year I just want the Flames to go 7-3 or 8-2 or hell even 6-4 in the first 10 and we never, ever do. This year we're sitting at 5-1 and I'm going to go out on a limb and say we'll be 5-5 after 10 games.
Totally understand the frustration, but just remember in the 7+ years they've had him in the lineup they've gotten past the first round twice and past the second Rd just last yr ofc and then swept. The last two games third period choke city specials aside, we have a competent group that can win consistently. We're just making poor decisions late in games and getting goalied by what you'd expect to be lesser quality tendies. For me it's all this coupled with Edmonton having their Gretz #2 and whatever Drais is in Edmonchuk lore. That's just too much vinegar on our wounds down here. I can hardly stomach the thought of another 10-15 years McDufus doing what he did tonight, last game against us and what he's done all season so far. I'm a very reluctant believer in any new superstar but I'm finally there in believing Connor Mcstinkypants could legit be better than ol Waynermcpoopyundies. It's almost unbearable. Makes me legit want our team to tank for as long as it takes to get a generational/league history great like they get every few decades.![]()
Don't care what the shots or fancy stats say the Flames other than like twelve minutes sucked this game. Especially the vaunted defense. Numerous breakdowns and cross seam passes allowed is not good enough. The play down one late is also horrendous! Can't even get in the zone lol.
Good : Nobody really. Tanev was our best defenseman by far and even he blew it on the PK letting that pass across to Sprong. Lewis played well. Liked Dube for the most part.
Not bad: Kadri scored a nice goal and gave one right back. He was alright. Andersson. Mangiapane needs to start cashing at some point, but he's got zero bounces so far this season. Lucic is playing his heart out so give him that, he's just not all that effective most of the time.
Meh: Lindholm was better, good to see him get on the scoreboard. I know Toffoli had two points and has been decent so far this season but I thought he stunk otherwise, poor clearing the puck and killed a lot of plays with poor passing. Ruzicka other than going for a hit and not covering his guy on Seattle's 1st goal was fine. Fine probably means he'll be sitting again come Thursday.
Not good : Hanifin sitting on zeros so far this year. Explore the market for him once Kylington comes back please. Huberdeau just does not look like he's on the same page as anyone, makes some good plays but just as many bad ones. Stone showing why he's a 7th dman in this game, struggled with Seattle's speed. Backlund wasn't very good, probly his worst game of the year so far.
Bad : Coleman our 4.6 million dollar grinder. Not good in any zone and can't handle the puck whatsoever. Zadorov scored a goal but was otherwise a mess. Weegar sucked pretty bad in this one. Vladar was poor, beaten cleanly on several goals. Goes down way too early and lunges at pucks. Special teams were not good at all.
Games like this is why I was hoping Pelletier or Phillips could crack the lineup. Seattle and Daccord played pretty well but there wasn't much creativity or speed in the Flames attack. Forecheck, get it back to the point, fire it in there and hope there was a puck laying there.

That won't last imo.
Is there any word on Kylington and when he may come back? Guy didn't have a training camp so he'd probably take several weeks maybe months to get back to his full level.
Of course I've been assuming someone in his family got really sick or died and it hit him very hard. Perhaps it's something more relating to his own health.
The fact we had far better xGF% against a team that is already top 10 in xGF% AND THIS IS WITH HOW SLOPPY WE PLAYED, I'm overall not super worried. I think we're still going to do well down the stretch.
As far as our D goes, just my thoughts (as unpopular as some might be).
I really want Stone to stay up and play and never go down to Stockton ever again. To say he deserves to be up here long term is understatement to me. Guys like Zad get praised continually while being responsible for GA on the ice and then GA while parading to the penalty box continually with brutally obvious and stupid slow-man and brain-fart penalties that no ref in the world is going to miss. I'd keep Stone in the top 5 or even 4 any day of the week. At least he gives a darn and has a wicked shot and would die for this team. Tanev is about the only rock we have back there. Ras is usually decent but he has no-show nights here and there like tonight. Weeger seems like a good acquisition but in the end he may just be another adequate guy back there. Hanafin has good moments and then strange, enigma moments. Whatever if he stays a top 4 for now - I can't wait if he ever decides to find another level and mature into consistency then we can talk about a good D.
The thing is who do you scratch once Kylington is back?
Do we run?
Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev
Weegar-Stone
or?
Hanifin-Andersson
Kylington-Tanev
Zadorov-Weegar
