Post-Game Talk: Flames 3 - Jets 1

Sometimes you just don't get the bounces. Can't really criticize any of the Jets skaters tonight. Comrie probably should've had that 2nd one but shit happens.
I mean off the post and in from the slot on the PP. Probably *could* have had it but I find it hard to say that he *should* have had it

Probably the crusty old goalie in me coming out though. I'm not trying to be overly argumentative or pedantic (for a change lol)

Stan overcommits to the guy closest to him - rather than staying in his position... so he has a real tendency to 'drift' - I think a big part of it is that he doesn't have the speed to close so if he feels he's got a guy to cover, he focuses on that...

One of our guys got picked at the blue line so that did open things up - but again, we want this team to win the cup so being 'fine' isn't actually fine...

You look at the offensive zone tonight - Stan was super passive with loose pucks and we did give up momentum several times because of that - but he is in position for their breakout... he just doesn't ever 'save' a play at the blue line. Same as shot blocking - he does it as best he can but he's too slow to pressure the shooter... its just Nate Beaulieu all over again.

He IS playing within his capabilities and reading plays as well as he can... but he'll get destroyed in the playoffs.

If Ehlers converts that breakaway goal, I fully believe this game would have turned into a blowout for the Jets...
Which o? I thought he created at least 3 in first period.

Got back from the game. I was a bit frustrated after the second period but once the Jets goal went in I found the 3rd really entertaining.

As everyone has said we got goalied. I think i called that after the first period.

Seems like Stan is a hot topic. I thought he was a bit off in the first period and seemed to lack confidence but I thought the second period was one of the better ones I have seen him play. I didn’t notice him as much in the 3rd which is a good thing.

Wolf is the real deal. He looked really poised, positionally sound, and also had the cat like quickness. Huge asset for the Flames and I guess that must be what it’s like cheering against Hellybuyck some nights.

Flames really stuggled to move the puck out of their end tonight.

Good effort by the Jets and one of those nights. Had a very good time with my son at the game.

Good post-mortem but the bottom line is that if the Jets don't score on the PP or the 1st line doesn't produce 5v5 the team ain't winning!

Really need from the other lines who have been pretty much neutered since November!

I don’t know if I agree that he overcommitted to the man in the slot or that that constituted not being in position.

I believe his job as the weak side D, he is the #1 person in charge of the net front. That is his main job, and he follows his man well.

The puck gets passed to his side and now as the strong side D he is responsible for fronting the shot. If the puck had to go around the perimeter to change sides, he would have had time to set up - that, I believe, is one of the central aims of the PK. Prevent seam passes because seam passes are DIFFICULT to cover.

In my opinion that was a difficult spot to be in and failing to get in the blocking lane is understandable.

In the offensive zone, generally I agree with you he is very safe on backing off for fear of being beaten by speed and that is a downside of having a slow defender.

That being said, it isn’t all bad. I personally remember some good keeps, some good aggressive plays at the line. Saying “he doesn’t ever save a play at the line” doesn’t ring true to me.

I thought Nik was our best skater tonight and was tormenting the hell out of the Flames, if not for that Big Bad dreaded Wolf.

Our back up goalie, whether he is ok or bad is not good enough!

I miss Larry Croissant!

He is often our best skater creates opportunities for himself and doesn’t finish it can get frustrating. I thought tonight was a pretty off night for Schief.
Kc was good. Lowry is always great.
Weird look with miller on 2nd pp over baron, Kupari Lowry.

I feel like jets win 1-0 with Hellebuyck in net. Calgary has a good goalie. Not much else though. Just a 54 year old Kadri.

I dont think 'it isnt all bad' leads to success in the playoffs... our pk goals against do seem to focus on his side

Annoying we had to lose when we had the Flames commentary team tonight.

On the bright side, I was right when I said we should’ve taken Dustin Wolf instead of Logan Neaton

The lack of goal support for Comrie is ridiculous.

That said, good lord you need to stop that second goal. Long shot on the short side should not be going in.
Yeah, Comrie sucks. He’s an AHL goaltender.

I don’t mind him as backup if he’s buddies with Helle, especially with Helle playing so much, but it’s frustrating.

Stanley needs to play a quiet game not over think not over do. He gets in trouble when he tries to do to much. When he uses his frame and stick he can play, when he chases he gets in trouble
If he stays away from the puck, doesn't get penalties, and spends more time in the press box he's ok

I am on this train also. If the reason is literally "he is cursed" through no fault of his own, we still lose when he is in net.

Maybe they need to play him against higher event teams or something? No idea.

Not trying to offend anyone going over the games highlights and looking to explain why certain goals went in, but that's a futile effort. We shit kicked the flames for 60 minutes and they stole a game with a hot goaltender. You cant really dissect thattr
It was a solid effort by the Jets and classic situation of zero puck luck but the fact these games keep happening with The Brick in net is strange. They need to play him more to keep Helle fresh but cannot have it be guaranteed loss night.
I would have been thrilled to have this broadcast.
My series recording decided that the APTN broadcast on channel 582 was what I should watch.
I had to watch the game on mute.
It was probably a good thing to watch it on mute. I should have.
