Post-Game Talk: Flame Broiled

I don think anyone on here has said Fox is a terrible D, in his current state he just isn't enough to take the team over the top. When was the last time you saw him dominate a game in the way Karlsson/Hedman used to or Makar/Hughes currently do? Even Charlie McAvoy looked light years better than Fox this year. He has clearly regressed the last few years and the question then becomes is it due to the scheme, injuries/wear & tear, or has he given into that country club attitude so many past and current ranges seem to fall victim too.
Given the amount of money this team has tied up in NMCs and m-NTCs in the coming years, I'd rather move him and try to get a haul for him before we have another Kreider situation where most teams won't want to touch him.
Fox is a guy who needs a complimentary defensive defenseman to play alongside. That was Lindgren before he regressed. Lindgren allowed Fox to be what he naturally is - an offensive defenseman. Fox isn't s stalwart. Never was. And with the Rangers forwards doing a poor job of backchecking, he's forced to do things he isn't amazing at. People used to try and compare him to Makar. No one even does that anymore because there's just no comparison. The main difference there is speed (or lack thereof). I dunno if Fox has gotten slower but he sure looks like he has! If he was faster he would be SO much better.

I'd have no trouble moving him, though. I'd have no trouble moving anyone on this team besides Igor.

Betting on the Rangers opponents this year paid for my wife and I too go to Antigua. Still 13 games left on the printing press!
If true I have many travel tips. Went there in October and it was spectacular.

I know you all don’t want to hear from an NJ fan but I watched the game last night. I felt bad for the fans who paid their hard earned money for that performance. In the last 13 years filled with HORRIBLE Devil teams, it reminded me of one game in particular. It was this game in 2019 where they attempted a retool. They put in zero effort that game and it led to this iconic reaction.

Devils tore it down right after this game and rebuilt again.

Bottomline is the fans who paid money to be there and the ones who tuned in deserved better from the staff and these professional athletes.

Start booking the tee times and vacations fellas!

They've given up. That much is clear. They all knew how important last night's game was. They're adults and don't need to be told. They just can't put it together. They're not a cohesive unit. They already gave up on their coach and I think now they're giving up on themselves. The only solution is to rebuild at this point. Rebuild around Igor. Keep JT Miller for leadership. Try to get rid of pretty much everyone else.

I'm pretty sure they plan these things ahead. in terms of what's mandatory and what's optional. Players have commitments outside of work. That being said, if they were free but chose not to show up, it means that they've tuned out the coaching staff and sadly their teammates. At the same time, wallowing in a downtrodden environment for an hour is not going to change anything

Regardless... they need the f'n practice. After a game like that, LEADERS (like a Messier) would kick your ass for not going to a practice after that performance. You might even find yourself benched. But maybe we're just not in that same age of accountability. Gotta get your nails done! That's important!

They would be practicing a flawed system that's shown it doesn't work with this roster.

I don't disagree. But it WOULD show some f'n accountability, heart and desire to get better, win or whatever you want to call it. You don't just check out. And that's exactly what this team is great at. It's a lack of character bunch. Last night was an unacceptable performance and what does anyone do about it? Give lame-ass post game interviews. They might as well be scouting golf courses today.

Let me clarify. I don't think the system is entirely wrong, based on how the bottom 6 has consistently been able to generate a forecheck, zone time and chances. They play well fundamentally but just lack the talent to finish the job. Meanwhile, the top six has the talent, maybe it's not elite and up there with the very best, but it should be sufficient for them to score goals. But they play slow out of their own free will or they simply cannot play faster, and their fundamentals are MIA. It's the same dichotomy I've been saying forever.

There isn't any accountability at this point, with the fact that they've checked out mentally off the ice and played lackadaisically at the start of games countless times. They're past accountability, because Lavi is forced to play his "best" even though the bottom 6 guys are definitely more deserving of opportunities late in games and on specialty teams. He's trying to tie and win games. That's his priority. And this wasn't the first time they've completely not shown up for a whole game. This is one last ride or die, I hope. It will again come down to the players vs the coaching staff. If Drury can make roster moves, we might see Lavi again and vice versa.

i'm not gonna drop a hot take on the politics of optional skates here, but like, you can't practice your way out of being bad and untalented lol

they could go to every single optional and there's a great chance absolute jack shit would change

At the very least it should show concern of how bad things are going. This group doesn't give AF.

Edited to add: I actually think I hate this Ranger team more than I hate the Islanders. I really, sincerely hope the Islanders overtake them in the standings.

If you remember, the team started to tank on their road-trip thru Western Canada, specifically against Calgary and Edmonton. Immediately after those 2 games, they brought up some kids from Hartford, split up Zib and Kreider, and the trade talk concerning Trouba and Kreider heated up. Lav also started to go nuts with his line combination. This was the beginning of the end. I think what really happened is the the Rangers get demoralized by teams with speed. We have no way to combat it. That’s why N.J. Was such a bad matchup in the playoffs a couple years ago.

And therein lies the underlying problem that has plagued this franchise for decades. They are not a unit or team. One of my major complaints over the years is that the Rangers have always been put together from the top rather than building from the bottom up....players are rarely brought in to fill a need. Rangers have made a habit of targeting the top free agent, any marquee players being traded and/or any player owner deems will put fannies in the seat. These players are then thrown together willy nilly and are expected to win because of their natural talents. Doesn't matter to ownership/management that they don't mesh. And when it comes to pass that they don't mesh and/or can't succeed, O/M promptly goes out and gets a similar player to replace them and get the same result.

If they do manage to get a talented young player, he has little to no chance of succeeding here....he is either stuck in the minors or brought up to play 4th line minutes or sit in the press box. If he does make it to the lineup and happens to make a mistake, he will more likely than not be stapled to the bench for the rest of the game. If he is an offensive player, he is forced to become (at best) a 3rd line checking forward -- again with limited minutes and banishment for mistakes.

Look at this! It is downright embarrassing. We are a joke to the league, deservedly so.

Sam and Joe weren't having it either. This play right here was the epitome of all the things that are wrong with this team.

13 shots at home against a team that got blown out in Toronto the night before is inexcusable. This game should have been 10-1 if not for Igor. Great game by him completely wasted.

The thing I don't get is how they went from President's Trophy to this. I really don't understand it. Yes, they probably overachieved last year but this is a total collapse. Does 1 year older make these players THAT much worse (Kreider, Zibanejad, etc.) ?
