The next time I hear an American born player say they are fully committed to their Canadian nhl team, I won’t believe it. That reminds me, didn’t Auston Matthews say that recently?
You think Matthews is the same as the Tkachuks? One seems like a legit good person from a good family while the other two are... (will omit description here to avoid being banned)

Matthews is cut from a different cloth. No indication that he wants out. If things do change (not expecting they will), the Leafs would be smart not to repeat the Marner fiasco

This is so corny lmao. You don’t know any of these people in real life.

Probably has a really good chance at being a decent result for Ottawa and I am not a Brady fan at all, think he is overrrated in pretty much every aspect. I don’t think it was smart for Zito to blow his draft haul on a middling winger with so many other holes to fill and an older overall roster if that’s what he did here.
Florida will be a handful. Barkov came back strong to win WC gold. Lundell is a very good 2C. Both will have a Tkachuk on their line. Not bad.

Agree , even though it’s an Atlantic to Atlantic trade it still feel like the division already got stronger somehow?

Probably a quality over quantity thing.

Yes, they will decline, but they won't drop to a team that doesn't make the playoffs or even gets close any spot with a likely good pick.

Plus 2029 is top 10 protected

They literally did that exact thing this season.

Sure, certain circumstances and all, but you're trying to predict 3 years from now. Would you have known what was going to happen by June 21st 2026, back on June 21st, 2023? Jordan Staal, Conn Smythe winner at 37, in the 2024 and 2025 playoffs, combined, had 3g, and 5pts, in 26 games. Even if you knew that would happen, would you have predicted, at 37, that he'd have the best playoff performance of his career the following year?

And yeah, a top 10 protection, which seems to be a league standard now, but that's at least saying ok, yeah, we might suck by then.

It's really getting pathetic how many players are requesting trades and then listing some combination of Florida, Vegas, Carolina and Tampa as the locations they'd accept trades to. Maybe it's always been like this and I just forgot but I can't recall stars throwing their hands up and then specifically requesting to be moved to Colorado, Detroit or New Jersey in the late 90s.

Maybe not quite like that, but guess where all the players ended up back in the late 90's? They ended up on Det, Col, Dal, Tor, Phi, and the NYR. Those were the only teams that could afford anyone, so they didn't necessarily have to request it, but everyone pretty much ended up on those teams. NJ was a bit different, they had an internal cap, so they weren't really a destination(remember, Scott Stevens wanted nothing to do with the franchise when he ended up there), but it didn't matter, because Stevens, Niedermayer and Brodeur were so good.

AM34 is arguably worse because he takes short term deals to make sure he gets his bread. I'm all about players having power, but his loyalty has never been to any team, only the bag. He'll go wherever he can get the maximum amount of cash. The Tkachuks at least signed for 7 years and gave their teams some semblance of stability and room to add players to

League would be fun if most of the Canadian players did stay in Canada.
We certainly wouldn't have gone 34 years without a Cup.

We need MacDavid to come home to T.O. Edmonton should just accept it. They had their shot, let's bring the Cup back to the Mecca where citizens bleed blue and white! :D

You gotta give the Sens credit their team is an excellent farm system to the rest of the NHL.

Thank you to all their fans

Right?

Top winger on a Canadian team, has a bad playoff, decides he doesn't want to play in a Canadian market anymore, makes a move to a low tax warm destination down south.

I don't know how this only happens to Ottawa.

Nothing wrong with a player getting paid. Doesn't mean he doesn't want to stay/be loyal

Liked it for Ottawa given the no-win scenario of him refusing tor re-sign. prior to learning about the 2029 protection... now I think they got smoked. Ottawa needed to bank on that pick's upside down the line, (Couldn't of gotten it down to top2-5 pro?)

This also further devalues FLA 20271st CHI owns. Probably see a bunch of new mock trade up tweets from insiders over next week. Media feeding frenzy continues.

FLORIDA IS A DYNASTY and they got even better. Best offence in the modern day era. Zito is the best GM of all time.

Going from Samoskewich to Brady is a monster upgrade.

Verhaeghe - Barkov - Reinhart
M. Tkachuk - Bennett - B. Tkachuk
Loustarinen - Lundell - Marchand
Greer - Boqvist - Rodrigues

Wow that is an Olympic roster. No team in the NHL can come close to matching those top 3 lines.

The best part about this trade is the Tkachuk brothers can do all their future YouTube videos in person. They want to become the next Mr. Beast.
