Honesty or not, the Habs fanbase, unlike other fanbase, nailed the return for Chiarot. Our view on Chiarot is closer to the one from the GMs of other teams.

agreed. but its just annoying to see some habs fans defend him as a good player. he is trash but he was always going to get a good return because GMs are dinos and overpay for grit/toughness/sandpaper every single year. This won't be the last time a trash player gets such a return.

Chiarot is not good, but the bolded isn't quite accurate. Its more that the NHL is a copycat league and we've seen in the playoffs for a while now that having big D-men that can clear the slot/crease and play top-4 minutes is vital to going far. I think 2018 was the last year that the cup finals that didn't see both teams with a lot of big and strong D-men.

If chiarot is playing anything close to top 4 minutes you are probably not going far unless you have an elite goalie

Zito has done an awesome job for the most part but Chiarot and Hagg being his deadline defense additions when Ekblad was already banged up was ...really bad.

Can't believe they left the pick unprotected.
They had already traded the 2022 with protection. If they traded the 23 with protection in theory both of 24 and 25 could be encumbered with the protection from 22 and 23. Makes it harder to make the Giroux deal using the 24 pick later. From Fla its better to have protection on 24 than 23 as 24 they may miss POs Huderdeau may be gone by then.

LOL, don’t pretend you are making the playoffs, let alone the finals if the divisions weren’t altered because of a unique global pandemic. If the Leafs were the ones making that run last year, you guys would be saying it’s a fluke because of the format.

Circumstantial luck by not having to face Tampa earlier. But winning playoff rounds against any team in a best of 7 is not a fluke. Keep laughing if you wish. Habs were not a legit contender but playoffs are a different game so the "labeled" contenders where this team should beat that team is only something fans do. Game is played on the ice and the Leafs know all about this.

And if the Leafs went on a run by beating the Habs, I would have not called is a fluke. Maybe others would have yeah but I can't control that. The only big factor was not having to go through Tampa in the 1st two rounds.

The Atlantic is a tough division

HA HA HA. Silly people actually think Habs fans are downbeat right now. Dude, we were in the Stanley Cup Finals 10-11 months ago. We got rid of our crappy GM and coach and got big upgrades there. Suzuki was great and Caufield got his crap together. We beat records for IRL's and subsequently bottomed out. But guess what? we got a crap ton of picks including #1 Overall.

Sunny days ahead boyo. Sunny days ahead.
I will be honest, as a habs fan, i am glad this happened. I hate seeing my team maintaining the status quo because "anything can happen in the playoffs" when I see other teams doing cycles of "building great core, competing, aging, starting over". I am also glad that the new administration seems axed on speed an offence as opposed to Montreal's caracteristic "build from the back" approach (goalie, then D, then forwards). Unless you have a Makar, i dont think there were as many fans buying tickets to see someone like Weber compared to someone like McDavid

This is like the best thing to happen to us in 20 years. (outside that fluke playoff covid run last year of course). Combining the two together between 10-11 months is basically extra gravy . Its fantastic

I agree; it is crazy the impact Price has on a team. I think MB overvalued his players because of it. So psyched for the draft, and watching the Rocket regularily even. I havent been this excited since MB got Vanek lol
