In 20 years I hope we get a Ben Chiarot trade tree video on Sportsnet.
And I hope it looks like this. ;)

People wouldn’t have expected Erat to get Forsberg as a return either. GMs make terrible trades all the time

I think the prediction was he will get a 1st but that he absolutely should not. At least his advanced stats can't get any worse.

These charts are tired. GMs don't trade based on charts by jfresh. If a scout walked in to a meeting with a fresh chart they are summarily fired.

Why do you supposed jfresh doesn't get paid the big bucks to evaluate talent for a NHL club?

The WAR charts are garbage and Gms know it. Ask Leaf / Jets / Vegasfans the value of Chiarot in the playoffs. Chiarot dominated and intimidated Marner and Matthews. The Leafs carried the puck towards Chiarot to avoid Weber and paid a heavy price. Chiarot played 25+ heavy minutes per night and ran out of gas in the finals. Panthers will discover a gem and will shut up the idiots who are clueless to Chiarot’s game.

If Chiarot brings it like last post season, the Panthers got a prime Derain Hatcher for a low price.

No do much that he ran out of gas then half the team playing injured.

Toffoli, Gally, Weber, Petry, Price were all playing at 50%. Cortisone shots can take you son far.

I clearly predicted he would get more than a 1rst. Based on last years market it was an easy prediction.

With the regular season over and a 20 game sample size in the books, I will say that everything Panthers fans said ended up being correct. Chiarot is a good bottom pair d-man, an okay middle pair d-man if he doesn't have to carry the pair, and just simply not a top pair d-man. Now that Ekblad is back, Chiarot will be playing bottom pair.

I was wrong about spending the assets we did to get Giroux. That looks like a great trade, but I feel vindicated about this Chiarot deal. From what we've seen, I would much rather play Carlsson as the 6D and Lindbohm as the 7D and keep the 1st Rounder, 4th Rounder, and Smilanic than have paid those assets to deploy Chiarot as the 6D.

>but Ekblad was hurt
Completely irrelevant. This trade happened before the injury, and now Ekblad is back for the entire playoffs.

Wtf? He wasn’t acquired for the final games of the season, though, he was acquired for the WHOLE THING. Through two games he’s been great so far, especially when compared to Weegar, who was much better last night.

You weren’t right about anything yet lol.

I have no interest in this years playoffs so I haven't watched any of it. How has Chiarot played so far after the trade?

Weegar is the new whipping boy on the Cats board. It's just flat out wrong to say that Chiarot has been much better than Weegs this series. He had one awful, awful play. Otherwise, he's been meh in his top pair role, and Chiarot has been solid in his role getting the the sixth most minutes both games.

Weegs isn’t the new whipping boy for me, though, I’m calling it like I see it, I love Weegar. I don’t get his recent flak by some…however, he had several bad plays on game 1 and tightened it up on game 2. Two goals were a result of bad decisions by Weegs.

Chiarot, oth, has been steady and what I expected of him. I wouldn’t mind swapping D partners a bit, but hopefully Weegar continues to settle down a bit.

Still, your post before this said Chiarot was a poor acquisition, it’s FAR too early to tell still since we’re in game 2 of the whole reason he was acquired. Imo Hagg was brought in cause Ek went down, not as a replacement, but as a body on the ice.

I have no interest in this years playoffs so I haven't watched any of it. How has Chiarot played so far after the trade?

Took time to adjust, he’s settled in fine.

Weegar definitely hasn’t been as good defensively this season as he was last year when he was a low-key Norris candidate. It’s not just one play.

That said, I don’t think it portends anything drastic other than he just hasn’t been as sharp this year. He’s obviously still a million times more important than Chiarot.

Weegar getting the Mike Matheson treatment in Florida is hilarious.

Players playing top pairing minutes always get burned. Go watch Hedman..

A lot wrong here...to start, Mike Matheson was far from a great player on the panthers. He wasn't as much as a whipping boy as much as he was just pretty bad.

Two, of course all players make mistakes, it's about frequency. MacKenzie Weegar has made more gaffes through his teams first 2 games than Victor Hedman, as one would expect, because he's not as good....
