I am surprised Marchand got so little. A an Islanders fan I think we did way better with Nelson then the Bruins did, both are UFCs so it's not like the Avalanche got something extra out of their rental(unless they came to some agreement beforehand to sign an extension)
I wonder if there's a verbal agreement to re-sign with the Bruins this off-season, a la Antoine Vermette re-signing back with the Coyotes after winning the Cup as a TDL acquisition with the Blackhawks in 2015. (unless there's something against that in the CBA I'm unaware of)

Also Plekanec coming back to Montreal after being dealt to Toronto at the deadline

Basically vets trying to get a run at a ring and giving their teams a free 1st/2nd round pick.

Marchand is older, injured , with way more miles on him. Especially play off miles.

Pleks was washed up before the leafs traded for him. Bozo Bergevin brought him back so he could play his 1000th game in Montreal. Which outside Pleks family and Bozo-Vin, nobody cared.

it's a rebuild. 5 players in one week.
Captains that have been traded

Gretzky
Messier
Iginla
Tavares
Phenuef
Gilmour
Wendyl
Turgeon
Linden
Muller
Pronger
Chelios

Just to name a few.
A year after they were named captain, to a division rival for a poor return, when they didn’t want to be traded? They were fine getting rid of the guy for whatever and you can spin it however you want but he’s clearly worth less to Boston than a second round pick which is not much at all.

When was Tavares traded by the way? You can lie to yourself about the Marchand trade but no need to lie to everyone else to prove your point.

Marchand being injured and expected to be out for a while (at least) certainly affected a lot of the interest in trading for him.

He’ll be out injured for a while, anyway. Boston won’t be facing him this playoffs. He most likely won’t re-sign with FL. Not really a direct conflict, and says little about how Boston “feels” about him. Actually, letting him go have a chase at another Cup shows they think highly of him. I’ll be surprised if he’s not a Bruin again next fall. He will retire as a Broon.

That’s even if he plays again. He could retire after this year. Bruins got something for him and did right by him. Win win.

I see what you’re saying but it only makes sense if he wanted to be traded and I don’t believe he did.

Boston was giving him the boot regardless, and out of respect I agree they probably let him choose which teams he would go to, but that’s still a lot less respect than I would have thought for someone who didn’t want to go and gave everything they had to Boston.

Idk, Broons let him go chase a Cup, he brings them a nice draft pick in return. Marchand actually helps the Bruins by him agreeing or wanting, or however you want to frame it, to be traded.

It’s because of the Penguins as usual 😂
Kidding, but only sort of…
Cam Neely, career derailed by a Penguin
Marc Savard, career ended by a Penguin
Brad Marchand, injured a week before the deadline by a Penguin, ruining his trade value

Only bad part about this trade is leafs might see Marchand again in the playoffs. He can and probably does re-sign in Boston.
This will just fire him up knowing boston let him loose for the playoffs. And hopefully no team sees a tkachuk Bennet Marchand line for a 7 game series

Forgot JT left the island and was demoted from captain in T.O. Un tradable with that inflated contract

Panthers fans, if you ever wanted to see a player destroy a team in one shift, this is it.
The Canucks still haven't recovered from this.
